According to the latest reports, ABC News is forced to pay $15 million to Trump to settle a defamation lawsuit, George Stephanopoulos forced to issue a public apology.
The development stems from a March incident where Stephanopoulos claimed Trump was found “liable for r*pe.”
Now, ABC News has to pay $15 million as a charitable contribution to a “Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for Plaintiff, as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past.”
If that weren’t enough, they also have to cover Trump’s $1M in legal fees.

In July of 2023, New York Judge Lewis Kaplan issued a clarification in the civil cases brought by author E. Jean Carroll against President-elect Donald Trump. A New York jury had ruled in May of that year that Trump was liable for sexual abuse and defamation against Carroll. According to New York criminal law, “rape” is narrowly defined as non-consenual vaginal penetration by a penis, and all other forceful acts of sexual assault are referred to as “sexual abuse.”

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos deactivated his account on X, formerly Twitter, where he had more than 2.3 million followers.
Stephanopoulos’ account on Elon Musk-owned X (@GStephanopoulos) is no longer available, displaying a message that says, “This account doesn’t exist.” Stephanopoulos’ Instagram account remains active.
Stephanopoulos’ X account went dark at some point over the weekend, after ABC News settled a defamation lawsuit filed by Donald Trump against the network and Stephanopoulos over the anchor’s inaccurate comment in a March 2024 interview on ABC News’ “This Week” that “Donald Trump has been found liable for rape by a jury.” Stephanopoulos was referring to a jury’s verdict that found Trump had sexually abused the writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s.
Reps for Stephanopoulos and ABC News did not respond to requests for comment.

Updated, with Des Moines Register comment: Donald Trump vowed to file additional lawsuits against media outlets and media figures, just days after he settled his lawsuit against ABC in which the network agreed to contribute $15 million to his presidential foundation and library.
“We have to straighten out our press. Our press is very corrupt, almost as corrupt as our elections,” Trump told reporters today in a press conference.
Trump suggested that he would file a lawsuit against Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register, which published her poll, just days before the election, that showed Kamala Harris with a three-percentage point lead in the state. As it turned out, Trump won the state by more than 13 percentage points.
Trump claimed that the poll was “fraud” and “election interference.” “We’ll probably be filing a major lawsuit against them today or tomorrow,” he said.

ABC has settled a defamation lawsuit Donald Trump brought over anchor George Stephanopoulos’ inaccurate on-air description of Trump being civilly liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll, which Stephanopoulos described as “rape,” The Associated Press reports. The network will pay $15 million, which will go toward Trump’s presidential library as part of the settlement. Stephanopoulos had wrongly stated in March that Trump had been “found liable for rape” and “defaming the victim of that rape” rather than sexual abuse during a live This Week interview.

Donald Trump has been ordered by a federal judge to sit for a deposition next week as part of his defamation litigation against ABC.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid wrote that the deposition should take place some time the week of Dec. 14 and should be limited to four hours. It also should be in person and take place in Miami, where the lawsuit was filed, she wrote.
Trump sued the network earlier this year over remarks that This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos made during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Sc) in March.

Over the weekend, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) flooded X with a deluge of hateful rhetoric that repeatedly called transgender people “mentally ill.” Her comments arrive just a year after she proclaimed herself “pro-transgender rights“
Mace introduced a resolution last week aimed at prohibiting transgender members of Congress and other government employees from using Capitol Hill facilities that match their gender identity. The motion targeted Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), who became the first openly transgender person to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill specifically (and proudly) targeting a new, transgender member of congress this week, and the hosts of “The View” were thoroughly disgusted by it on Tuesday morning.
Mace’s bill aims to bar transgender women — namely, Sarah McBride — from bathrooms on Capitol Hill that match their gender identity, instead forcing McBride to use men’s facilities because she was assigned male at birth.
In discussing it on “The View” Tuesday morning, moderator Whoopi, marveled at what kind of welcome it was, to which host Sara Haines promptly noted that it simply isn’t one.
“It’s not a welcome, it’s flipping her the middle finger. Because she is the one person in the House that this will affect,” Haines said. “It’s for House and their staff. One person. One person. And this woman that sat at our table was one of the most decent,...

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-s.C.) introduced a bill on Monday that would prohibit transgender members of Congress and other government employees from using Capitol Hill facilities that match their gender identity.
The resolution arrives just over a week after Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.) became the first openly transgender person to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
When speaking to reporters, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Mace doubled down on the House resolution. “He’s a man, a biological male,” said Greene, referring to McBride.

A federal judge this week allowed former President Donald Trump’s defamation lawsuit against ABC News to continue, formally rejecting a motion filed by the broadcast network to dismiss the case on First Amendment grounds.
The lawsuit, filed in March, accuses ABC newsman George Stephanopolous of defaming Trump when he repeatedly claimed that the former president was found liable of rape in a civil case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll.
The comments were made during a broadcast of ABC’s political affairs program “This Week” while Stephanopolous was interviewing South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace about her support for Trump in spite of his legal case.
Trump was found liable for sexual assault, not rape. The two acts are legally distinct in New York, where Carroll brought her case.

A federal judge in Florida refused to toss out Donald Trump’s defamation lawsuit against ABC News over comments that anchor George Stephanopoulos made during a contentious This Week interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-sc).
Trump sued the network over Stephanopoulos’ contention that “juries have found” the former president “liable for rape.” Last year, a civil jury found that Trump was liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump contended that he was defamed as Stephanopoulos did not make the distinction.
U.S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga wrote that she “does not find that a reasonable jury must — or even is likely to — conclude Stephanopoulos’s statements were defamatory. What kind of man spends $100 million on the 2024 presidential race — only to become the top donor to two candidates, men who are supposed to be rivals?
Timothy Mellon is a scion of one of America’s great family fortunes. He’s uber-rich, infamously reclusive, and stubbornly litigious. He’s fascinated by Amelia Earhart and Patsy Cline, both of whom perished in air crashes. He’s a crusader against illegal immigration, has written that Black Americans are “belligerent,” and likens the social safety net to a modern form of “slavery” that Republicans must smash.

Ahead of the first presidential debate, Donald Trump is taking a leaf out of his Election Day playbook and attempting to preemptively discredit a strong performance by President Joe Biden. The former president and his allies have spent the days leading up to the rematch between the 2020 rivals accusing Biden of everything from doping, to secretly using an earpiece, to the unsportsmanlike use of Mountain Dew.
There is no evidence that Biden receives performance enhancing drugs ahead of major public appearances, but Trump’s allies have picked up on the thread regardless.

Rep. Nancy Mace‘s (R-South Carolina) use of a reimbursement program is under review by the House Ethics Committee. The program allows House members to be reimbursed for business expenses in Washington, D.C., including food and lodging. Members may be repaid up to $34,000 a year. A panel is investigating Mace’s reports to determine whether the South Carolina representative overcharged the program and misused its funding. In 2023, records show Mace was reimbursed over $23,000 for her Washington townhouse alone. Documents indicate the money covered insurance, bills and taxes, which is against the program’s terms.
The House committee has not voted on whether Mace’s spending warrants an official investigation. Mace is one of several other lawmakers whose reimbursement almost meets the maximum cost. Mace is only a shared owner of the townhouse, so she cannot receive full repayment.

Federal Judge Carl Nichols has ordered former Trump adviser Steve Bannon to report to prison by July 1 to serve his four-month contempt of Congress sentence.
In July 2022, Bannon was found guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over documents to the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack after being subpoenaed.
He had been sentenced in October 2022 to four months behind bars, the same sentence that another ex-Trump adviser, Peter Navarro, who also declined to comply with a Jan. 6 Committee subpoena, is now serving.
“The defendant chose allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Molly Gaston told jurors during closing arguments in 2022.
Bannon’s sentence had been put on hold pending appeal, and his lawyers made their case to a three-judge federal appeals court panel in November 2023.

A scene depicting a rape by former President Donald Trump in a biopic, The Apprentice, inspired controversy during its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
In the movie, which premiered at Cannes on Monday night, Ivana Trump (Maria Bakalova) shows a young Trump (Sebastian Stan) a book about the female orgasm. In the scene, the former president tells his late ex-wife he is not attracted to her. He then throws her on the ground and angrily penetrates her as she asks him to stop.
“Is that your G-spot,” he asked her while sexually assaulting her. “Did I find it?” The scene inspired gasps from the audience. Ivana accused Trump of rape in a divorce deposition back in 1990. He denied the allegation, and his wife later said the incident had left her feeling “violated” but not raped “in a literal or criminal sense.”

The Supreme Court determined on Thursday that South Carolina Republicans did not engage in racial gerrymandering when redrawing the map of the state’s 1st Congressional district, overturning a lower court ruling by the District of South Carolina.
In a 6-3 ruling the conservative majority of the court, comprised of Justices Samuel Alito, John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, held that they saw no evidence that the Republican-controlled state legislature was motivated by racial bias when it removed 30,000 predominantly Black residents from the 1st...

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) has accused her former staffers of “sabotaging” her after most of them resigned in recent months, complaining about her erratic working style.
In February, Mace’s former aides publicly complained about their time working for her.
One former staffer told The Daily Beast that the South Carolina representative “says nothing publicly without her consultants or senior staffers telling her to but takes credit for everything.” Another ex-staffer mentioned that she is considered a “joke” in Congress.
Most of the representative’s staff quit, leaving her struggling to find new employees.
Mace’s office has experienced a 100% turnover since November 1, 2023.
The representative described several ways in which her former staffers had sabotaged her.

Rep. Nancy Mace incorrectly claimed that crime is “skyrocketing” across the United States under President Joe Biden, prompting X (formerly Twitter) to issue a community note correcting her. That note was later removed by the platform.
“You’re seeing, since Joe Biden took office, crime skyrocketing all across the country, and especially in big cities,” Mace said in a campaign video posted to X on Saturday. “You see illegal immigrants coming in, beating up cops… You’re seeing crime skyrocket.”

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard arguments in a case that threatens to limit access to mifepristone — a critical component of the abortion pill protocol — nationwide. A decision in the case is not expected until June, but close observers of the Supreme Court seem to think the case will be dismissed over a lack of standing.
The fact that this case made it all the way to the high court, though, is a testament to the reality that ending access to the abortion pill — the most common method of abortion,...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is enacting a revenge plot against the eight House Republicans who ousted him.
In October 2023, McCarthy was booted from his position as House speaker when a group of Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to vacate the chair.
McCarthy is out for revenge against the group that he has dubbed the “Crazy Eight” or “Gaetz Eight” and its leader, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), who introduced the motion to have the speaker vacated.
The former House speaker left Congress two months later. This ended up shrinking his party’s majority in the chamber.
McCarthy’s ally, Brian Walsh, is working to round up primary challengers to the “Gaetz Eight.”
The ousted speaker is prepared to mobilize his still-sizable donor network to arrange primary challenges. He is focusing on three representatives specifically. His allies believe that Reps. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), Bob Good (R-Virginia) and Eli Crane...

According to those who’ve spoken to him lately, former President Donald Trump doesn’t seem to think he’s actually going to win his defamation lawsuit against ABC News and its star host George Stephanopoulos — but that’s not the point.
Over the weekend, Stephanopoulos asserted that Trump had been “found liable for rape and defaming” the victim, writer E. Jean Carroll, by judges and two juries. As a factual matter, a jury found Trump defamed and sexually abused Carroll — and he was ordered to pay $83 million for defaming her again.

Former President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and George Stephanopoulos over the remarks the anchor made during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) on This Week.
Trump’s lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Miami on March 18, focused on how Stephanopoulos, at many points in his questioning, mentioned that the former president was found “liable for rape.” The jury found him liable for sexual abuse under New York law, but not rape.
“These statements were and remain false, and were made by Defendant Stephanopoulos with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth given that Defendant Stephanopoulos knows that these statements are patently and demonstrably false,” Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, wrote in the 20-page complaint.

Former President Donald Trump has filed a defamation suit against ABC News and one of its best known anchors, George Stephanopoulos, alleging that the TV journalist damaged Trump’s standing by saying on air that he had been found liable for raping E. Jean Carroll, a journalist and writer who recently won a defamation suit against the former Commander in Chief.
The suit, filed Monday in the Miami division of Southern District of Florida in the U.S. District Court, attempts to make the case that Stephanopoulos during the course of a recent broadcast of ABC News’ “This Week” defamed Trump by stating the rape allegations several times. While Trump was found liable by a jury of assaulting Carroll sexually, the judge in the trial indicated that Carroll had not failed to prove that Trump raped her, citing New York’s narrow legal definition of the crime.
ABC News declined to comment on the matter.

Former President Donald Trump has again filed a defamation lawsuit against a major media outlet, this time over comments that ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos made during a contentious recent interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-sc).
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Miami, claims that Stephanopoulos defamed him during his questioning of Mace during an interview on This Week.
During the interview, Stephanopoulos played a video in which Mace said that she was a victim of rape. He first asked Mace, “You endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape. How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony that we just saw?”

Former President Donald Trump makes an appearance in a New York state courtroom to be arraigned on felony criminal charges on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News after one of its journalists erroneously said he was found legally liable for rape.
The comments were made by journalist George Stephanopolous during the March 10th episode of “This Week,” during which he repeatedly asked South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace to explain why she would support Trump despite a recently-decided civil trial that found him liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll.
During the interview, Stephanopolous repeatedly said a civil jury in New York state had found former President Trump “liable for rape,” though the actual case decided whether Trump was liable for sexual assault. Amid the U.S. House passing a bill this week that would ban TikTok, Bill Maher wasted no time Friday sharing his thoughts on the controversial matter.
To kick off the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time, the host joked during his monologue, “China, you know what, you can manufacture everything else that we use, but keeping our kids stupid, that’s our job.”
The bill, which passed by a vote of 352-65 in the House, would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app if its China-based owner, ByteDance, doesn’t sell it. Lawmakers have expressed concerns that the company’s current ownership structure is a national security threat. President Joe Biden has said if Congress passes the measure, he will sign it, however, the bill has to pass the Senate first.
Later on Real Time, during his discussion with Republican Rep. Nancy Mace and Democratic Rep.

Bill Maher tapes his show, which means news that breaks on Friday is usually not mentioned.
Such was the case on Friday’s Real Time, as earlier in the day, stories broke that Maher has fired his longtime agents at CAA, allegedly over not being invited to agency head Bryan Lourd’s A-list house party during Oscars week.
Ironically, Maher’s “New Rules” editorial was about the trend toward whining about the small stuff in life.
“Being obsessed with your mental heath is bad for your mental heath,” he proclaimed. He tied it to why President Joe Biden’s approval rating is so low “when things are pretty good.” He cited the modern blessings of next day shopping, stuffed crust pizza, and porn on your phone. So “cheer the f**k up,” he advised.
“Yes, you are on the spectrum,” Maher said. “So’s everyone alive. That’s why they call it a spectrum.

Former President Donald Trump told a cheering crowd at one of his rallies that controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) is “very smart” and “very respected in Congress,” raising eyebrows on both sides of the political spectrum.
At his rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Trump took the stage to deliver his remarks on the eve of the South Carolina Republican primary, where he secured a significant victory against Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina), the state’s former two-term governor.
Despite calls for her withdrawal from the race, Haley has remained steadfast in her campaign.
Greene, on the other hand, has been vocal about her desire to “eradicate” Haley from the Republican Party due to her decision to continue running after the New Hampshire primary held last month.
After he acknowledged his endorsement by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), who had previously opposed him, Trump directed his attention to Greene.

The big bipartisan border reform deal is all but dead, thanks to Maga Republicans obeying Donald Trump’s wishes to kill it. The legislation delivered many of the immigration measures conservatives have long wanted, but the former president and his allies in Congress worry progress on the issue would make Joe Biden look good ahead of the presidential election. Therefore, addressing what Republicans say is the most pressing crisis facing America today is going to have to wait until a later date when the party feels it’s more politically expedient.

The Fox News chyron blared, “Tempers flare as Hunter Biden crashes contempt hearing.” But on Wednesday, the network was joined by the two other major news networks in focusing on the legal travails of the president’s son.
Biden unexpectedly made an appearance at the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on whether to hold him in contempt after he declined to show for a behind-closed-doors congressional deposition last month. Instead, Hunter Biden said that he was willing to testify in the open.
“What you are watching is pure congressional mayhem,” CNN anchor John Berman told viewers of the scene.
At the hearing, Republican members appeared to be taken off guard by Biden’s appearance.
As Biden sat in the gallery, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Sc) said to him, “My first question is, Who bribed Hunter Biden to be here. My second question is, you are the epitome of white privilege.
