Alexis Kenyatta Marie Owens is an American Actress, Cinimatogherpher, Journalist, and Television Producer. She is known for Grief (2022), Adiyah Grace (2022), Her Happy Place (2020), and LeVelle Moton present: The Connect (2020).
She began modeling for local magazines and boutiques in her hometown, Jacksonville, NC, which propelled her career in acting. At age 17, she signed with her first talent agency. After that, she began background acting work for the NBC Television series Revolution (2012) and Swirl Films, Frat Brothers (2013), where she networked with independent film directors in the local area.
On thanksgiving day of 2013, a family member who believed in Alexis's journey set up for her to meet the Oscar Award Winning actor Mahershala Ali. After sitting and talking to the actor for hours, Ali encouraged Alexis to use education as a gateway into acting. As a result, she attended North Carolina Central University, receiving a B.A in Mass Communications concentrating on Broadcast Media.
Inspired to learn different gateways into acting, she found an additional love for directing and producing. So she created a student-led digital media show, The Grid Exclusive (TGE.) On TGE, she interviewed White House Correspondent April D Ryan, Rapper Clifford "T.I" Harris, CNN Political Commentator Angela Rye, and N.C Central Men's Basketball coach LeVelle Moton. After a successful interview with Moton on TGE, he asked her to host his pilot Show, The Connect (2020), featuring Rapper/Activist David Banner and Grammy Award-winning Music Producer/CEO of Jamla Records, 9th Wonder, which aired on PBS.
Alexis is excited to continue to grow and inspire others through the use of her art. She wants to use her acting as a tool to add representation for young Black Women in film and be a service to others through storytelling.
