Mumbai, May 16 (Ians) The countdown to the 23rd edition of the International Indian Film Academy and Awards (Iifa) has begun. Bollywood is gearing up for the industry’s biggest holiday, with at least 20 of the industry’s A-listers packing to be at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, from May 25 to May 27.

The grand stage for the Awards is once again the Etihad Arena, the Middle East’s largest state-of-the-art indoor entertainment venue, located on the picturesque Yas Bay Waterfront. Vicky Kaushal and Abhishek Bachchan are all set to be the hosts for Iifa 2023.

The awards will be interspersed with live performances by a mega star cast, with Bollywood’s Bhaijaan, Salman Khan, leading the way. His ‘Kick’ collaborator, Jacqueline Fernandez, will give him company, along with Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, who were last seen together in the horror-comedy ‘Bhediya’.

The biggest celebration of Indian cinema, the International Indian Film Academy and Awards (Iifa), returns with its 23rd edition to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi this May! A full weekend of events including Iifa Rocks and Iifa Awards promises, once again, to be a spectacular event.

Recently, the winners of the Technical Awards were revealed and Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmāstra and more were honored. The statues will be given out at Iifa Rocks, which will be hosted by producer-director Karan Johar and director-choreographer Farah Khan. The International Indian Film Academy and Awards (Iifa) has announced its technical winners from 2022. There are total nine categories of technical awards which include cinematography, screenplay, dialogue, choreography, sound design, editing, special effects (visuals), background score and sound design.

Of these, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ leads the pack as it bagged 3 awards – Best Cinematography was won by Dop Sudeep Chatterjee, Best Screenplay went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Utkarshini Vashishtha, and Best Dialogues was conferred upon Utkarshini Vashishtha and Prakash Kapadia.

The Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer horror comedy, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ won Best Choreography for title track by choreographer duo, Bosco-Caesar, and Best Sound Design by Mandar Kulkarni.

Filmmakers Karan Johar and Farah Khan will host Iifa Rocks, a musical extravaganza showcasing talents from India. Iifa Rocks 2023 will have live performances by some of Bollywood artists, including Amit Trivedi, Badshah, Nucleya and Sunidhi Chauhan.

International Indian Film Academy and Awards (Iifa) returns to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on February 9, 10 and 11, 2023.

Karan said: “I’ve shared a special bond with Iifa for over two decades. It will be a pleasure to rock the stage with Farah. Toodles!”

Farah Khan had hosted Iifa Rocks with Aparshakti Khurrana at the 22nd edition in June this year.

However, ever since lockdown was imposed due to Covid-19, live shows dried up, pushing musicians -- especially those who werent signed up with big music labels -- to adapt, and so they did.

Plenty of indie musicians, restricted at home, started creating music within the confines of their four walls, and the result was fantastic. 2020 was probably the biggest year in terms of independent music releases.

Popular rapper and music composer Raftaar, who is gearing up to judge Season 7 of dance based reality show "Dance India Dance", says his dreams have become bigger.

Raftaar, whose real name is Dilin Nair, on Tuesday posted a photograph of himself sitting besides co-judges Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bosco Martis.
