McKenzie was up first and did a cover of Patty Griffin‘s contemporary folk song “Up to the Mountain.” As our live blogger John Benutty noted, “This was a great song choice for her, finally taking a step back away from the diva ballads and giving us something we can all immediately connect to. As expected her big voice shined bright and she showed the same control, maturity and depth of talent that she’s had all season.

Even Adam Levine couldn’t save Reagan Strange from elimination this week on “The Voice.” She lost the Instant Save to Kennedy Holmes of Team Jennifer Hudson. Last week, Levine had intervened when Strange was too sick to sing in this sudden death match. He threw one of his other artists, DeAndre Nico, under the bus and urged viewers to vote for Strange.

That strategy worked and she made it through to the Top 8. At the start of the Dec. 11 results show, it looked like she might make the final four. Carson Daly revealed that two of Kelly Clarkson’s artists — Sarah Grace and Kymberli Joye — were the bottom vote getters and were eliminated right away by Carson Daly. Clarkson’s last act, Chevel Shepherd, made the top three as did Blake Shelton’s two remaining artists: Kirk Jay and Chris Kroeze.

That left Strange to face off against Hudson’s Holmes and MaKenzie Thomas.

And just like that, Kymberli Joye, the final gospel singer still in contention to win “The Voice” Season 15, was eliminated during Tuesday’s Top 8 results episode. Because Kymberli and Sarah Grace, both of Team Kelly Clarkson, received the lowest number of overnight votes for their Monday performances, the two powerhouse artists were not given the option of singing for their lives via the instant save. That meant Tori Kelly‘s “Never Alone” (watch above) ended up being Kymberli’s final performance ever on “The Voice.”

During Tuesday’s Top 8 results episode of “The Voice,” ballad singer MaKenzie Thomas of Team Jennifer Hudson was eliminated just prior to making it to the Season 15 finale. Only eight contestants remain on Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice, and Monday night found the frontrunners squaring off for a spot in the four-singer finale that will take place next week — plus some country mash-up fun.

As always, R&B powerhouse MaKenzie Thomas turned in a captivating performance, boldly tackling a Mariah Carey tune for the second time this season. Taking on “Vision of Love,” Thomas gave the 1990 hit a gospel makeover, standing in front of a waterfall of light and earning cheers from the crowd as the song’s energy rose halfway through.

The Top 8 artists on “The Voice” each sang one solo on the two-hour episode on Monday December 10. The goal for each of these would-be winners of season 15 is to be the most streamed on Apple Music by Tuesday morning so that they can reap the benefit of a vote multiplier. The bottom three vote-getters as revealed by host Carson Daly will have to sing for the Instant Save on Tuesday’s show.

That is what happened last week to Dave Fenley from Team Blake Shelton and both DeAndre Nico and Reagan Strange from Team Adam Levine. Each was to sing one more song to try and win votes cast by viewers via Twitter. Strange was too sick to perform but still won the Instant Save after Levine threw DeNico under the bus.

Reagan Strange sang “You Are the Reason” live on “The Voice” on Monday. While her performance of this Calum Scott song was good, it may not be enough to get her into the final. She is suffering a backlash from fans of DeAndre Nico, another of Adam Levine‘s artists, who was booted from the show last week.

Both Strange and Nico were in the bottom three vote-getters (along with Dave Fenley of Team Blake Shelton). Normally all three would perform one more time for America’s votes to win the Instant Save. However, Reagan was too sick to sing. Adam came to her rescue and threw DeAndre under the bus by asking viewers to rally around Reagan instead. His plan worked that night but since then has backfired as support for the departed DeAndre has grown.

Reagan tried to quash the controversy on the weekend by turning to Twitter.

Believe it or not, there was some business to attend to on The Voice Monday besides Adam Levine more or less totally ignoring the #AdamSucks backlash that erupted after he played favorites with his team members during the Top 10 Results Show. The remaining eight singers — including the now-recovered Reagan Strange — performed twice in hopes of surviving Tuesday’s Semifinals bloodbath and advancing to the Finals.
