Cobra Kai was a masterclass on how to blend nostalgia with fresh storytelling. The themes and plotlines of the story felt both familiar and excitingly new to me. Every time they featured a rivalry or a redemption arc, I’d have goosebumps, and I could never get enough of the karate showdowns.

The franchise was known for these game-changing, super techniques well before fighting games like "Street Fighter II" and "Mortal Kombat" made them popular, and the franchise never really stopped. As a result, "Cobra Kai" builds a wealth of these iconic moves to choose from, usually rolling out at least one every season. All of these secret techniques serve a specific purpose, but they vary greatly in power and the way they're used on the show.

Part 3 of Cobra Kai‘s finale has premiered its final trailer, courtesy of Netflix, and the show is inevitably taking it all back to where it started at the All-Valley Tournament. Imagery of nostalgia continues as shots of Daniel and his now ally, Johnny, both train in the crane kick on the beach like in the original Karate Kid and a trailer mix of “You’re the Best Around” will pump you up for the final round of karate combat.

On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 TV slate. The lineup includes the final seasons of two of its biggest shows, Stranger Things and Squid Game, and a second season of its other biggest show, Wednesday. While all the characters in Cobra Kai showcase tremendous karate skills, the actors who play them aren’t all proficient in the martial art, or any martial art, for that matter. Some of them, however, do have extensive training in real life. Thomas Ian Griffith, for example, who plays Terry Silver, has been studying karate since he was in high school and has amassed more than 40 years of training. Sean Kenan, who plays Mike Barnes, was initially hired for The Karate Kid III because he already had karate experience.

What about the younger, new cast members? Some of them have dabbled in martial arts prior to receiving training for this series. In the latest and final sixth season of the series, one actor who has real-life martial arts experience is Rayna Vallandingham, who plays the fierce Iron Dragons student and social influencer Zara Malik.

When Cobra Kai first started out, the show focused on the age-old rivalry between Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Larence (William Zabka). Their built-up resentment was then mirrored by Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) and Robbie's (Tanner Buchannan) on-screen fighting throughout season 1 and beyond. But, there was another serious antagonism about to brew when a new character entered the scene to challenge a previously unchallenged Samantha Larusso (Mary Mouser).

Tory Nichols (Peyton List) showed up in season 2 with an edge and a lot of trust issues. She got close to Miguel, and then Robby, all the while, Sam was dealing with her own romantic entaglements with the boys. Completely different backgrounds and upbringings, plus the romantic rhombus that had developed, led to a lot of animosity between Cobra Kai's young leading ladies. Over Cobra Kai's six seasons, Sam and Tory fought many times, with the Cobra Kai actors often performing their own stunts.

The end of Cobra Kai is near. Netflix has announced the premiere date for the remaining episodes of the sixth and final season of the sequel series with the release of a teaser trailer.

Cobra Kai may be ending with Season 6, but the future of the franchise just received a positive update from co-creator Jon Hurwitz. The showrunner took part in a Q&a session on X/Twitter ahead of the release of the final episodes of the series, and among the many questions he responded to, one particular comment caught the attention of many fans.

The popular Netflix series, which aired its original episodes on YouTube Red, is a sequel series to the original Karate Kid movies, and although the new series will conclude this story, the franchise is already set to continue with the new legacy sequel, Karate Kid: Legends. The new movie will see Raph Macchio once again reprising his role as Daniel Larusso, this time teaming up with Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han to train another young "Karate Kid," Ben Wang’s Li Fong.

Cobra Kai creator Jon Hurwitz has an exceptional update about a potential spin-off. The show, which was a sequel to the Karate Kid franchise, is coming to an end with the upcoming Cobra Kai season 6, part 3. A sequel movie, Karate Kid: Legends, is already in development. It will follow Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) working with Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) to help train the young Li Fong (Ben Wang), and it will be released on May 30, 2025. While it does mean a future for many characters from the franchise, some remain in limbo.

In a post on his official Twitter account, Hurwitz announced that he is "actively working" on a potential spin-off. While he did not officially state that there would be a follow-up show, he did emphasize that he has high hopes for the project. Check out his post below:

Cobra Kai is all about the villains versus heroes storyline. The initial focus was on answering the question of whether Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) was truly the villain of The Karate Kid or if it was actually Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). Cobra Kai VI, the lowest-rated season of The Karate Kid spin-off series, has only premiered a third of its final season so far, leaving ten of the fifteen chapters to debut. The second batch of episodes continues where the first left off, setting up a showdown at the Sekai Taikai tournament between Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai, along with some other competition. Once again, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are a charismatic pairing, whether on opposite sides or the same one. However, the middle section of Cobra Kai’s final season still feels like it...

Johnny Lawrence, Daniel Larusso and their students are headed overseas to compete in the international Sekai Taikai tournament in a new trailer for “Cobra Kai” Season 6 Part 2, which will drop on Netflix on Nov. 15.

The trailer shows the group landing in Barcelona, Spain and the group entering the doors of the karate competition, where they’re set to face off against 15 other teams. In addition to new rivals, Miyagi-Do will also deal with the fallout of Tory Nichols (Peyton List) defecting to Cobra Kai, while also fighting to stay united as internal rivalries bubble to the surface.

“We’ve heard all this garbage going around about loyalty. Almost all of us are trained somewhere else at some point,” Lawrence says in the teaser. “What matters is where our asses are now. We’re Miyagi-Do and we’re not losing. So wipe the smirks off their ugly faces.”
