The ongoing school holidays saw two family-friendly animated titles lead the U.K. and Ireland box office.

Warner Bros.’ “DC League Of Super-Pets” debuted atop the box office with £2.6 million (3.2 million), according to numbers released by Comscore.

In its fifth weekend, Universal’s “Minions: The Rise Of Gru” continued its stellar performance, collecting £1.99 million in second place, for a total of £33.5 million.

Disney’s “Thor: Love And Thunder” took in £1.90 million in third position in its fourth weekend for a total of £30.8 million. In fourth place, Warner Bros.’ “Elvis” collected £1.1 million in its sixth weekend and now has a total of £20.8 million.

Paramount’s Tom Cruise vehicle “Top Gun: Maverick,” which continued soaring in its 10th weekend with £981,129, rounded off the top five and has a mighty total of £76.1 million.

Documentary is a loving tribute to David Raven, a cabaret legend, as he continues to perform in his 80s

‘I should have written a bloody book. I’d have been rich.” So says David Raven, Britain’s oldest drag artiste (he hates the term “drag queen”). At 88, Raven is still performing – perched on a stool – as his alter ego Maisie Trollette. In this affectionate if slight documentary, he tells a story or two, though perhaps not enough to fill a book. Raven’s memory is fading. Nothing is said outright, but the camera lingers a few times on his medication, Donepezil, which is prescribed to help with dementia.

So the film becomes a rather lovely portrait of Raven’s support network in Brighton – an inter-generational group of friends from the drag circuit all keeping an eye on David (“Maisie” is just for the stage). Raven is a legend on the scene.

Ronee Blakley still remains better known to many as an actor than a singer-songwriter, thanks to screen appearances like her Oscar-nominated turn in “Nashville” and later appearance in “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” But she was releasing major-label albums in the early ’70s before a plum Robert Altman part landed her on the cover of Newsweek. Now she’s returning to music with her first non-soundtrack studio album in years, “Atom Bomb Baby,” which has just been released on digital services.

The album has a strong tie-in to another project that brought her back into the limelight last year: Martin Scorsese’s “Rolling Thunder Revue” documentary about the legendary Bob Dylan ensemble tour on which she was one of the top-billed performers.
