2025 is halfway over, and at this point, I am realizing that most of the movies I was excited about this year have been a disappointment, but that doesn’t mean that there were no good movies released this as there have been some extremely entertaining ones. But for this article we are only compiling the best of the best films that were released as Prime Video originals this year.

Even when critics don't love a film, that doesn't mean the general audience will avoid it. There has long been a disconnect between critical reviews and the tastes of the viewing public, and it appears that the Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell comedy, You're Cordially Invited, is another example of this. Released by Amazon MGM Studios on Prime Video at the end of January, the film wasn't the cup of tea of most critics, but, as it turns out, it has become one of the biggest hits released by the streamer.

Per Deadline, You're Cordially Invited pulled in 50 million worldwide Prime Video viewers via data that was measured over 145 days. This makes the film rank among Amazon MGM Studios' top-three most-watched comedies of all time. During its premiere week, the film landed the No.1 spot on Nielsen's Movie chart with 827 million total minutes streamed and remained in the top ten for three weeks.

Prime Video's comedy movie with a 47% Rotten Tomatoes score has soared into the all-time top three streaming charts. Amazon's streaming service offers a large selection of licensed movies and TV shows and titles from the Amazon MGM Studios library. The streamer hasalso gained a strong reputation for its original content, including popular Prime Video shows such asReacher, The Boys, and Rings of Power.

The platform is also home to several popular Prime Video movies. In addition to those that had theatrical releases before arriving on the streaming service, such as Ben Affleck's biographical drama Air and Emerald Fennell's psychological thriller Saltburn, Prime Video has also found success with several direct-to-streaming releases.

These titles include the Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Another Simple Favor starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, and the Nicholas Galitzine romantic dramas Red, White & Royal Blue and The Idea of You.

The film, which premiered on Prime Video Jan. 30, landed the No. 1 spot on Nielsen’s Movie chart debut week with 827 million minutes streamed and held a spot in the top ten for three weeks. The actor no longer speaks to Witherspoon. The “Walk the Line” Oscar winner did not reveal the actor’s name, but she did admit that the whole situation “haunts me, it literally haunts me.”

“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress,” Witherspoon said. “She asked me to give her an award, but I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.”

“But that was not the tone,” she continued. “The tone was British, elegant, classy, and I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’ I’m still embarrassed about it.

There is really nothing that is not completely predictable about Amazon Prime Video’s latest big budget romantic comedy, but with Reese Witherspoon back in the genre, and Will Ferrell doing what he does best, the chemistry is there, and so are some laughs, including a real Lol moment involving Ferrell and an uncooperative alligator that is a good reason comedies should probably best be seen with a crowd. Unfortunately, despite its stars and fan-friendly genre, this one is straight to streaming. At least in a Valentine’s Day period, You’re Cordially Invited qualifies more appropriately as a far more pleasant date movie than the horror and action Valentine’s movie the studios have planned this year. It isn’t going to make you forget My Best Friend’s Wedding, Bridesmaids and Father Of The Bride anytime soon, but it’ll do, even as the ‘R’ rating here seems a little harsh.

There is a wildcard at every wedding, but in the case of “You’re Cordially Invited,” there are two. And they are played by Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.

Now streaming on Prime, the film directed by Nicholas Stoller centers on two families who unknowingly double book their weddings at the same small inn — an inn that can really only accommodate one wedding. For Jim (Ferrell), it is his daughter’s, and for Margot (Witherspoon), it is her sister’s. Naturally, the two immediately go insane, trying to force the other to back down.

Somehow, Ferrell and Witherspoon have never led a comedy together, but they are doing it now with a very familiar cast.

If ever there were a season in need of some lighthearted escapism, this winter would surely be it. So audiences may well embrace Amazon’s wedding comedy, “You’re Cordially Invited” — streaming on Prime January 30th — as the equivalent of fast-food comfort. Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. David Schwimmer is venturing into the chilling world of horror for the first time in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Though having worked steadily through the early '90s in recurring and supporting roles in both film and TV, Schwimmer quickly became a household name thanks to his turn as Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends, a role he played for all 10 seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination for. The years since have seen him explore a wide variety of genres, including the true-story-based The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which netted him his second Emmy nomination, and the animated Madagascar franchise.

In the same The Hollywood Reporter interview where he revealed that Netflix is developing three more Fear Street movies, author R.L. Stine also spent some time hyping up another streaming adaptation of his work: Goosebumps: The Vanishing. The second season of the new Goosebumps TV series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is set to make its premiere on January 10th on Disney+ and Hulu – and Stine described this as an “elevated” Goosebumps that’s more terrifying than the source material.

The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past. The show is taking the anthology route, so we can expect a second season that has “an entirely new cast and setting based on Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.

In a series of exclusive interviews, The Direct's Russ Milheim sat down with the cast of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, where the cast revealed their childhood nightmares and talked about their time on the series.

Season 2 of Goosebumps will feature an entirely new set of characters and stories, separate from Season 1, that will pull from some of the franchise's most iconic original books, including Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, and Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

Netflix released the first poster for Fear Street: Prom Queen on its official X account, which shows Shadyside High's schoolyard covered in fog. The school's Marquee sign reads, "Shadyside High School Senior Prom '88," however, the "D", "I," and "E" in "Shadyside" are in red, spelling out a message that will surely frighten those it is meant for: "Die." Blood splatter covers the bottom of the Marquee sign, with a bloody ax leaning against it. "In 2025, experience a new nightmare from the world of Fear Street," the poster's tagline states, confirming the movie's release window on Netflix.
