Octavian's audition for Strawman (2016) required him to say the f word. He had never sworn before and his dad had to coax him on the 20 minute ride to the audition to drop an f bomb out loud before he went in.

Fascinated with everything film, Octavian stayed on set for over 2 hours after his shoot, watching and questioning the crew of Once Upon a Time (2011).

His parents are Libby Kaul and Anthony Kaul.

Octavian's personal letter for his application to USC was so unique, the admissions team wanted to interview him to determine if he was super creative or in trouble... The 15 minute interview lasted over an hour and a half...

During the filming of his award winning short film Wormies (2022) the crew used more than 11 litres of Surgical Lubricant to simulate slime from the monster.

Pre-production for Wormies (2022) involved building a 3.5 foot articulated worm monster controlled by 2 puppeteers and 13 cables. This was conceived, designed and built by Octavian and his sibling Aria (sculptor/designer) over a period of 8 months.

Octavian wrote his USC application and personal letter at the library of the University of Texas at Austin TX. At the time, during his gap year, he was driving around the US states living mainly out of his Mazda5 collecting stories. He has now driven through or visited every US state except for Alaska.

During the filming of his award winning short Attack of the Killer Scarecrow (2020) Octavian was questioned by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the middle of the night about the extremely bright LED light rigged 30 feet above his Dad's SUV on a precarious C-stand contraption he had built and plugged into a house over 1000 feet away and across a roadway... He was able to somehow convince them that this artificial moon was perfectly safe, and that he didn't require a permit... they let him keep filming and watched some of the scenes.
