‘The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die’ (2023). Netflix Movie: epic, yes, without being spectacular
The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is a movie directed by Edward Bazalgettestarring Alexander Dreymon, Mark Rowley and Arnas Fedaravicius.
It is based on the novel by Bernard Cornwell.
As it is becoming usual in well-known series, Netflix gives us this story that, set in The Las Kingdom, will delight the fans who enjoy the series and its great plot.
Historical novels are a hit, and thanks to authors like Bernard Cornwell, the quality of their plots and arguments were assured. Moreover, readers loved them and The Last Kingdom is a great example of this.
The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023)
After Vikings, this story of Saxons and Vikings was a success in its serial format and now it comes as a two-hour episode that can be watched independently, but that you will enjoy much more if you are fans of the excellent TV series.
Is it the spectacle we were hoping?...

Seven Kings Must Die concludes the story of Uhtred Ragnarsson, a decades-long frenemy of the English crown since the days of King Alfred the Great. It’s largely adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s final instalment in his Saxon Stories books, War Lord, along with elements of the two previous novels, and tracks the contested succession to the royal throne following the death of King Edward.
A significant time jump has taken place since the final moments of The Last Kingdom season five, during which Aelswith, Hild and Eadith have all passed or moved away. A core of male characters remains though, including Uhtred, Finan, Sihtric, Father Pyrlig and Aldhelm. They’re joined by brand new characters, as below.
Laurie Davidson as Ingilmundr
The biggest addition to The Last Kingdom’s regular cast is Aethelstan’s new trusted advisor, Ingilmundr, a Danish-born Christian who shows a powerful influence over King Edward’s successor.

Shortcut, a title that doesn’t give much away but fits nicely alongside other horror movies such as Wrong Turn and Dead End. Both of which are actually pretty good despite their uninteresting road-related titles.
Unsurprisingly, Shortcut sees a school bus take a shortcut when the way they are heading is blocked. And again, unsurprisingly this shortcut leads the passengers somewhere they do not want to end up being.
The writer and director actually do well to take you in one direction in the first twenty minutes or so but then heading into a much preferable and unexpected way after. We initially see five young teenagers – two girls and three boys – being driven somewhere on the big red school bus by a likable driver are some great sound effects for the monster.

All paths lead to an unavoidable outcome, at least that’s the conclusion demonstrated by the teenage motley crew facing a nightmarish problem in director Alessio Liguori’s “Shortcut.” If only someone had course-corrected the filmmakers on their own route to making this letdown of a horror road-movie, which gets off to a good start before losing its way. With lackluster character development, a few ill-conceived situations in the second half and dialogue that sounds like it’s been run through Google Translate, there’s only a modest amount of entertainment value found therein.
It was supposed to be an average bus ride home from school for shy high-schooler Nolan (Jack Kane) and his classmates artistic Bess (Sophie Jane Oliver), loudmouth Karl (Zander Emlano), intelligent Queenie (Molly Dew) and rebellious Reggie (Zak Sutcliffe). The kids razz each other, trade prophetic riddles and discuss the rare lunar eclipse happening that night.

All you need to make a horror thriller is a bus, five kids, and a mysterious creature, according to a new trailer for Shortcut. The title resonates for horror fans, since we all know that taking a shortcut is a *bad* idea that inevitably leads to bad things happening. Directed by Alessio Liguori, the film hails from Italy and is presented in English, which makes a certain kind of sense for a certain kind of contained, horror adventure. The cast includes Jack Kane, Zak Sutcliffe, Andrei Claude, Sophie Jane Oliver, and Terence Anderson. It's heading for more than 200 theaters (drive-in and otherwise) in the U.S. on September 25, courtesy of Gravitas Ventures, with a VOD release to follow in December. Here is the official...

"It won't stop until it's finished." Gravitas Ventures has released an official US trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Shortcut, made by Italian filmmaker Alessio Liguori. This premiered at a festival in Italy last month, and opens on VOD this month in the US, if anyone is interested in giving it a watch. A group of five classmates is trapped inside their school bus after a mysterious creature invade the road. Time runs and every passing minute decreases their survival chances against the constant threats of that unknown entity. This sounds a bit like Jeepers Creepers, but looks entirely different. Starring Jack Kane, Andrei Claude, Zak Sutcliffe, Zander Emlano, and David Keyes. This looks a bit strange and isn't entirely set on the bus, but seems like a solid atmospheric horror with a creepy monster in the shadows. Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Alessio Liguori's Shortcut, direct...
