Azrael the Avenging Angel once had a shot at taking over for Bruce Wayne while he was recovering from serious injuries, but his run as The Dark Knight permanently branded him as the 'failed Batman'. His style is vastly different from the rest of the Batman Family, and much of Gotham, like DC readers, declare him too violent a vigilante to be heroic. With his reputation tarnished, Jean-Paul Valley has spent much of the Modern Age finally trying to put his life back together and atone for his past actions.
As part of the extended Batfamily, Azrael hasn't been in the spotlight or the public eye as much as the other members. His character development and growth wasn't a main priority for DC, until his most recent mini, Sword of Azrael. In this solo adventure, Jean-Paul Valley gets a second chance at becoming the hero he wants to be.

In this edition of Superhero Bits:
Alfred Molina may or may not be done as Doc Ock.
DC's co-head James Gunn stirs up some "Kingdom Come" chatter.
A helpful beginner's guide for "Marvel's Midnight Suns."
New "Masters of the Universe" comics.
All that and more!
Morbin' Time Continues As Morbius Gets An Official Lego In 2023
"Morbius" did not do very well at the box office, save for its opening weekend, but that hasn't stopped Marvel from putting the character out there more significantly. Case in point, a 2023 official Lego set is poised to feature Miles Morales doing battle with Morbius the Living Vampire.

Although the 80-page giants generally have been pretty good, especially the wave of books we had celebrating various character anniversaries, DC of late have struggled a little with the anthology books. I should say it’s not just DC, but as once upon a time they were the masters of the format it is most noticeable with them. The mix of creative teams isn’t the issue either. A blend of known names and up-and-comers was always the way DC’s mystery books operated, and it served them very well. What drew me to this book the most was Paul Levitz writing Phantom Stranger (that alone is worth the entrance price), and Tom Mandrake and Kelley Jones illustrating two tales. Let’s hope the other stories can add some scary fun as well.
The know the score with these books,...

This The Sandman review contains No Spoilers and is based on all 10 episodes of the first season of the show.
After decades of failed or blocked film adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Netflix has finally broken through with a new 10-episode series, released on Aug. 5.
And it was all worth the wait. The Sandman is spectacular.
The series, adapted for television by Allan Heinberg, David Goyer, and Gaiman himself, follows Dream of the Endless as he is captured by a human warlock and held in captivity for 100 years. He escapes captivity and returns to his realm, The Dreaming, to rebuild and reorient himself, and that process leads to personal growth and deeper relationships with his subjects and his siblings.

More than three decades after its original publication, Neil Gaiman's beloved comic book series "The Sandman" is finally a series on Netflix. Based on the acclaimed graphic novels by Gaiman, which spanned 75 issues from 1989 to 1996, the live-action adaptation has been a long time coming. The show - which serializes the first two comics in the series, "Preludes & Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House," along with some portions of volume three, "Dream Country" - centers on the immortal entity Morpheus, aka Dream, who wakes up from a century-plus-long slumber orchestrated by dark occultists. He must restore balance in his kingdom, the Dreaming, which has descended into chaos in his absence.
One important character Dream will come into contact with throughout the series is Lucifer, the ruler of Hell. Keep reading for a refresher on Lucifer as "The Sandman" starts streaming on Aug. 5.

This review contains minor spoilers.
The tricky thing about assembling a milestone issue is that it must satisfy both casual fans and Wednesday Warriors. In other words, not only must it pay tribute to a character’s rich history, but it must also stay true to said icon’s contemporary sensibilities and, hopefully, inspire everyone who’s laid down their hard-earned money to keep reading whenever the next installment hits stands.
Seeing as how DC did a fine job of pulling off this balancing act one year ago with Action Comics #1000, they’re now following suit with Detective Comics #1000. As it turns out, the decades-old title hits quadruple digits during the very year Batman celebrates his 80th anniversary. And believe me, you won’t find many better love letters to the Dark Knight than this baby.

Right now, it’s looking like 2018 will be a huge year for Aquaman. I mean, not only does he have his first solo movie arriving in theaters this December – which is getting some very positive buzz via its first test screenings – but his comics have also seen some huge shakeups in recent memory. As such, next week’s issue may prove to be a decent jumping on point for newbies.
We say that because while the uninitiated may be unfamiliar with King Rath, Aquaman #34 aims to spill the beans regarding his backstory. Given that, said offering seems to be as good of a primer on the man currently giving Arthur Curry headaches as any. Still, it’s recommended that you also bone up by picking up a few key trade paperbacks, but that’s a discussion for another day.

As we get ready for the Venom movie, we take a look back at the oddball moments in the alien-clad character's Marvel history.
Ever since popping in during the late-80's, Venom has been popular enough to show up all over the place. He's been a vengeful supervillain and he's been a mentally-unhinged would-be superhero. He's been part of the Sinister Six and he's been part of the Secret Avengers. The costume has latched onto various hosts and three of them have been used as soldiers for the government. An inventive idea that's starred in more bad stories than good, the alien symbiote has found itself in a lot of crazy situations.
With the Venom movie on the way, I thought I'd take some time to look through Venom's history and some of the more eyebrow-raising moments. Except for anything from Spider-Man 3 because my therapist...
