Sasha beat out more than 400 other actresses who auditioned for the Supergirl role.

Sasha was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts on August 7, 1995. At the age of 10, she moved to Colombia for two years. She then moved back to the U.S. and went to high school in Hollywood, Florida. Her mom is Samira Calle, her stepfather is named Kevin and her brother is Jacob. After graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She graduated from AMDA with a BFA in Performing Arts.

She is the fourth actress to play the DC Comics character Kara Zor El/Supergirl in a live-action adaptation after Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort and Melissa Benoist.

She is of Colombian descent.

Her iteration of Supergirl in The Flash (2023) was initially compared by fans to the character Cir-El from DC Comics. Her first appearance in costume on set in London suggested that her character could have been based on Lara Lane-Kent, from the "Injustice" universe. The first official trailer confirmed the character's identity as being Kara.

Her middle name is Marie.

She is the first non-white actress to play the role of Supergirl.

She performed a High School Musical song for a singing competition all while dressed as Gabriella Montez.
