Paramount has landed the rights to remake the Korean action and crime film “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil” that Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions is producing as an English-language version.
Don Lee, a.k.a. Ma Dong-seok, who starred in the original 2019 film, will reprise his role in the English-language remake as a mob boss who teams up with a cop in order to track a serial killer.
Lee is also producing the remake alongside Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions, Billy Acumen of B.A. Entertainment, and Chris Lee. The film is in the early stages of development.

This week, the /slash Film Festival, Austria’s biggest Fantastic Film Festival, starts its projectors in Vienna to screen a broad catalog of dark and twisted treats. From September 19 until September 29, the 10th edition of the Festival will also present a promising Asian selection.
Six Asian feature films and four animations are among the total number of 70 movies that can be seen in two charming old-town cinemas. The so-called “/asian” selection starts with “The Scoundrels” (2018), the debut of Taiwanese director Hung Tzu-Hsuan. From the Philippines comes Erik Matti’s “The Entity” (2019). An elegant horror-thriller about a secretive family history that is packed with suspense. In cooperation with the Japannual Film Festival, /slash presents the Japanese entry for the selection – “The Fable” (2019) by Kan Eguchi. The Manga adaption is a mixture of over the top action sequences and utterly disarming humor. Highly anticipated is also Won-Tae Lee’s “The Gangster, The Cop,...

Korean director Won-Tae Lee’s previous film was Man of Will, a period drama about the mistreatment of Korean prisoners. This latest outing is a whole other genre, a classic kick-ass cop movie with the great Dong-seok Ma in one of the lead roles.
As you might have gathered from the title, the three leads are Dong-seok Ma as the Gangster, a lumbering solid mass of trouble who runs illegal slot machine arcades and has his fingers in other pies across town. The Cop is Mu-Yeol Kim, a maverick officer who plays by his own rules. He is a constant thorn in the side of the Gangster but is frustrated by his boss being in cahoots with the mob, curtailing his ability to work. The Devil (Kim Sung Gyu) is a lone serial killer, setting up his kills by bumping into the back of his chosen victim’s car and...
