- His mom's ancestors were some of the founding settlers of the City of Minneapolis, when it was just a fishing village called St. Anthony Main.
- He is related to the late Ed Lauter (The Artist, Seabiscuit, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, King Kong) through his maternal grandmother. Ed's mother, Sally, was his grandmother's aunt. He had a large role in Alfred Hitchcock's last film, Family Plot.
