'I Have to Finish the Books': George R.R. Martin Offers Update On Final Game of Thrones Novels
Image
George R. R. Martin has offered an update on the final Game of Thrones novels he is penning. Following 2011's A Dance with Dragons, the acclaimed author has been working on the sixth series installment, The Winds of Winter, for over a decade, with a potential seventh, A Dream of Spring, also on the way.

In an interview with Collider, Martin discussed the difficulties and challenges of producing successful adaptations of his books, acknowledging they may not always meet fan expectations. "You try to make the story as good as it can be, and some fans will like it, some fans will not like it," he said. "You're always going to get criticism, but you've got to keep trying. You've got to try to do everyone the best it can possibly be." Martin believes fans who are unsatisfied will always have the source material to go back to. The writer...

Game of Thrones: The Age of Heroes, Explained
Image
Quick LinksThe Age of Heroes Featured a Distinct WesterosThe Long Night Defined the Age of HeroesEach Major House Had Its Own HeroHow the Age of Heroes Related To Game of Thrones

In Game of Thronesand House of the Dragon, history is everything. Characters regularly reflect on ages gone by, whether it means referencing Old Valyria, Aegon's Conquest, Robert's Rebellion, or even the Long Night. Most of the stars work desperately to prevent the destruction of Westeros through a second Long Night. Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Rhaenyra Targaryen, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), and Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) all spent their lives working to stop the White Walkers. Unfortunately, none of them were quite able to prevent the Night King's return.

Yet the actual details of the first Long Night remain an ongoing mystery. The events took place during the Age of Heroes, thousands of years before the events of either show.

Fantasy Author's New Book Trolls George R.R. Martin for Taking Forever to Finish Game of Thrones Novels
Image
Award-winning fantasy and science fiction author Larry Correia trolled George R.R. Martin for his notoriously slow writing pace. Correia's sixth and final book in his epic Saga of the Forgotten Warrior fantasy series, Heart of the Mountain, which arrives next month, contains a dig at Martin on its dedication page for taking ages to finish the A Song of Fire and Ice series novel, The Winds of Winter.

@westeorsies posted Heart of the Mountain's dedication page on X. "To George R.R. Martin. See? It's not that hard," Correia writes. Both men have traded barbs online in the past, so it remains to be seen if Correia's taunt will prompt any response from Martin. The acclaimed author's first A Song of Fire and Ice series novel, A Game of Thrones, debuted in August 1996 to widespread acclaim, spawning the 1999 A Clash of Kings, 2000's A Storm of Swords, 2005's A Feast for Crows,...

Fantasy author taunts Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin in his new book
Image
George R.R. Martin is the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which was adapted for TV as Game of Thrones. Only the producers behind Game of Thrones had to finish the story before Martin finished the source material; he released the last book in his series, A Dance With Dragons, way back in 2011. Fans have been waiting for the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, for over a decade at this point. And Martin will still have at least one more book to write, A Dream of Spring, after that.

Martin's exceedingly slow writing pace with Winds has become legendary among fans, with some wondering if he'll ever finish the book. Fantasy author Larry Correia — who is publishing the sixth and final book in his own epic fantasy series, Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, in February — has noticed. He's included a dig at Martin on the...
