Originally hailing from Long Beach, California Kalea grew up loving storytelling in the form of drawing, filling pages with active scenes, creating comic strips and spinning webs of plot lines with her action figures. Her interest in stories was not confined to her own imagination, but also was very much influenced by her family member's individual stories and learning about the events in their lives that led them to where they ended up. Her four grandparents and their different points of migration from the South, her parents' experience growing up in Long Beach and the climate and texture that led to her arrival in 1994 all play a huge factor in shaping her ability to dream.
She attended Cypress College and began to explore her interest in storytelling in the Media Arts program. There she was able to nurture her love for drawing and explore other modes of expression. Kalea found a love for painting, with light. She decided to pursue a career in cinematography there and the Film and Television program led to on set internships and networking opportunities where she was able to establish a base for what would eventually become a career in Camera. Kalea worked as a successful camera assistant working on both TV and film projects. The opportunity to work on a multitude of projects has provided Kalea with a depth of experience while allowing her to build relationships with prominent cinematographers within the industry. With over 7 years of industry experience Kalea is focused on defining her film career as a cinematographer.
