One of the top fencers in Fairleigh Dickinson University history, Miyamoto became just the second Fairleigh Dickinson University fencer to win an individual NCAA Fencing Championship. As a freshman in 1960, Miyamoto won the NCAA Individual Fencing Championship and helped Fairleigh Dickinson University to its first-ever National Team Championship with a perfect 13-0 record. She helped Fairleigh Dickinson University to back-to-back national runner-up finishes as a sophomore and junior. As a senior in 1963, Fairleigh Dickinson University won its second National Championship in four years. The Knights won behind the fencing of Miyamoto, who became the first, and the only Fairleigh Dickinson University fencer, to win two Individual National Championships.
