Sonia Bahl
- Writer
Sonia is a prolific writer who has spent twelve years in advertising making 30-second commercials (for everything from candy to condoms) and dreaming of turning them into 2-hour movies. She has lived in India, Indonesia, the USA, Belgium, and South Africa and is currently based in Singapore. Though Sonia was an Executive Creative Director at McCann-Erickson, she threw caution (and her full-time job) to the wind Ambieand embraced screenwriting. She was a finalist at MAISHA, Mira Nair's script writing lab, and has been commissioned to adapt books, write screenplays, stories, and treatments. Along with director Vandana Kataria, Sonia co-wrote the screenplay of Noblemen, a dark adaptation of The Merchant of Venice set in a boys' boarding school. The film was released to critical acclaim in June 2019. Sonia's debut novel 'The Spectacular Miss' - a heartwarming coming-of-age journey of a young girl as she redefines love, career, friendship, family and self - has been adapted into a screenplay for RSVP. Her second novel, A Year of Wednesdays - exploring the lasting impact of a chance meeting between two strangers, a brash young Wall Street banker and a tree-hugging mother of two, on a flight from New Delhi to New York - released in March 2019 to critical acclaim. Sonia has also co-written the screenplay for Vandana Kataria's feature film, Sitara, which was produced by RSVP. She has developed a screenplay for Fox Star Studios (Disney) and is currently working on feature projects for leading production houses.
