On February 28, 2020, World of Wonder Productions (producers of RuPaul's Drag Race) and VH1 announced that Sherry Pie (aka Joey Gugliemelli) was officially disqualified from the Season 12 competition after five men alleged they were deceived by the performer when he posed as a casting director and coerced them into doing 'degrading' things on camera for roles that did not exist. Gugliemelli later admitted wrongdoing in a post he made via his Instagram page and informed followers that he was seeking help. It was also announced that Sherry Pie will not return for the cast reunion special or the season finale to be filmed in Spring 2020.
