With Halloween now less than a week away, the new horror releases are showing no signs of slowing down. This week alone, 10 more new movies have arrived to haunt and entertain you.

In the wake of Mr. Crocket, Hulu’s “Huluween” lineup continues this week with the original horror-comedy Carved, which spewed pumpkin guts onto the platform beginning Monday.

Justin Harding’s Carved, based on the filmmaker’s 2018 short of the same name, falls victim to typical short-turned-feature issues that Brandon Espy’s Mr. Crocket better sidesteps. It's a bite-sized idea in a king-sized wrapper. Hulu's latest "Huluween" treat is stale, dismissively tropey, and cannot sustain its elongated duration. Save for a smattering of body-hacking practical effects, Carved is an unenthusiastic holiday dud that’s not worth its momentary highlights of violent pumpkin-inflicted punishments.

In Cedar Creek Village, an off-the-highway community devastated by a chemical spill years ago, authority figures like Bill (DJ Qualls) and Kevin (Marc-Sully Saint-Fleur) are trying to move forward. UP24 News anchor Aj arrives to cover upcoming Halloween festivities but immediately starts digging into their radioactive past. As part of its Huluween event, Hulu has released the dark comedy horror movie Carved, and while it has many typical horror tropes, it surprisingly ends two of the most tiring ones. Based on the 2018 short film of the same name by Justin Harding, who returns as co-writer and director, Carved takes the audience back to Halloween 1993. The chaotic events of Carved take place at Cedar Creek Pioneer Village, a living museum in Maine with different Halloween activities, like a stage play and a carving contest.

When a local guy finds an unusually big and strange pumpkin, he takes it with him and his friend uses it for the carving contest. What no one expects is the pumpkin being a mutation and coming to life, going on a murder spree across the village. A group of survivors, led by Kira (Elizabeth Peyton Lee), join forces...

Hulus outlandish and super bloody horror comedy Carved may put a temporary hold on those pumpkin pie cravings. Yes, its because the kills are graphic in this Halloween-set romp, but it has more to do with the killer, which in this case, is a sentient mega pumpkin. (Just go with it.) When the first real kills begin to happen around the 20-minute mark, the film doesnt let up. As the groovy bloodbath ensues, heads are severed, scalped, and stabbed by this unlikely killer whose vine-like tentacles reach far and wide. It also allows the big badass pumpkin the ability to walk around. Basically, a pumpkin-led massacre like no other.
