Byron Patrick Jara Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ruth and Byron Jara. He is of Mexican and Ecuadorian heritage. Jara spent most of his youth in the inner city of Chicago and moved to the suburbs during his high school years. He struggled throughout high school both socially and academically, even receiving a court summons due to truancy.
During his teenage years he became a professional gamer, specializing in the Halo series. He continued to do this until enlisting in the Army at the age of 18, where he served 4 years in Germany and Korea as a Signal Intelligence Analyst. Upon his return, he pursue his interest in comedy. He attended classes at Second City Chicago for 6 months before making the move out to Los Angeles where he continued taking classes at Second City Hollywood. After completing the improv program at Second City, he took his talents to the stage. He spent his time at open mics doing stand up comedy, receiving his first showcase at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank.
