Fox has officially canceled Outmatched.

The series follows a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to get by and raise four kids — three of whom are certified geniuses.

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.

The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.

Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.

From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet (La to Vegas), Outmatched harkened back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm In the Middle. It centered on a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Outmatched” after one season.

The news comes on the same day the network announced that it had renewed both “Last Man Standing” and “The Resident.” With the cancellation, the only Fox show awaiting word on its fate for next year is the freshman drama “Prodigal Son,” which sources say is likely to return.

“Outmatched” joins fellow canceled freshman Fox series “Deputy” and “Almost Family.” The network previously renewed freshman animated comedies “Bless The Harts” and “Duncanville” and the freshman drama “9-1-1: Lonestar.”

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.

“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.

The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

Fox has picked up to series live-action family comedy Outmatched (fka Geniuses), from La to Vegas creator/executive producer Lon Zimmet; and animated comedy The Great North from Bob Burgers creator/executive producer Loren Bouchard and the Emmy-winning Fox animated series’ writers/co-executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux. The actress has been cast in the Fox comedy pilot Dan the Weatherman, replacing Ashley Williams (How I Met Your Mother) as the female lead, per our sister site Deadline.

The potential series centers, naturally, on Dan — played by The Odd Couple‘s Thomas Lennon — who gets fired from his cushy job as a weatherman at the local TV station and reluctantly ends up in the world of cable TV.

The Fox comedy “Dan the Weatherman” is recasting two key roles, Variety has learned.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher is joining the project as Deborah, taking over the role played in the original pilot by Ashley Williams. Jack Stanton will play Dan Jr., the role originally played by Dashiell McGaha-Schletter. The pair will join the rest of the cast to re-shoot scenes from the pilot this summer, with the single-cam series still in contention for a midseason pickup at the broadcaster.

Williams most recently appeared as Ariel in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” in addition to starring in fellow ABC series “Kevin Probably Saves the World.” Her other TV credits include roles in “Reba,” “The Astronaut Wives Club,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Animal Practice.

For Stanton, joining “Dan the Weatherman” keeps him in the Fox family. He previously starred as Ben in the Fox comedy series “The Mick,” which was recently canceled after two seasons.

Fox is making casting changes on its single-camera comedy pilot Dan the Weatherman, toplined by Thomas Lennon. JoAnna Garcia Swisher has been tapped as the new female lead, replacing Ashley Williams, who was in the pilot. Additionally, child actor Jack Stanton has been cast as Dan’s (Lennon) son in another recasting.

Both Swisher and Stanton just became available after their series, ABC’s Kevin (Probably) Saves the World and Fox’s The Mick, respectively, were cancelled last month.

“The Last Man on Earth” has been canceled after four seasons at Fox, Variety has confirmed.

From writer-producer Will Forte and directors-producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, “The Last Man on Earth” centered on a small group of survivors of a deadly virus. It starred Forte, Kristen Schaal, January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Steenburgen and Cleopatra Coleman.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the series was executive produced by Forte, Lord, Miller, Seth Cohen, Erik Durbin and Tim McAuliffe.

Fox is giving another vote of confidence to new comedy series The Mick, handing the midseason entry an early Season 2 renewal, the first freshman Fox series to get a pickup for next season.

Fox had been firmly behind The Mick from the get-go, launching the series starring Kaitlin Olson behind an NFL double-header on Sunday and then giving it another special Sunday airing behind The Simpsons‘ first-ever one-hour episode. Three episodes into The Mick‘s 13-episode freshman run, the network gave the series an order for four additional episodes.

The football-boosted premiere of The Mick on Jan. 1, drew a 3.7 Live+same day rating among Adults 18-49, the highest-rated comedy debut on Fox since New Girl, with the post-Simpsons airing logging a 1.7. In its regular Tuesday slot, The Mick started with a 1.3 (L+Sd) and has settled into the 1.0-1.1 adults 18-49 L+Sd range in the past five airings.
