Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Harley Quinn season 5, episode 1Harley Quinn season 5 might not have been talked about much before its release due to the focus on James Gunn's DC Universe, but I have to say it will likely turn heads. I'm a fan of the show and the expanded universe it has created, which now includes a Kite Man spinoff series. That kind of worldbuilding, presenting a lived-in world from the start full of established heroes and villains, is exactly what Gunn is going for with the Dcu, and Harley Quinn could teach the franchise some lessons.
Harley Quinn is a 2019 film focusing on the titular character's evolution after severing ties with the Joker. As she seeks to establish herself as an independent force in Gotham City's criminal underworld, the film explores her journey toward becoming Gotham's criminal Queenpin.

Of all the comedy subgenres, the political comedy is probably the hardest to nail down. What, exactly, constitutes a political comedy? Is it a movie set in the world of politics? It is just a movie that has political commentary? And what’s the difference between a political comedy and a political satire? Is one meaner in its humor than the other?
In order to make a list of the 20 best political comedies, I had to figure out answers to these questions. And that meant making some tough choices, like any good elected official. And what I decided was to be pretty strict in my definition of what counts. There are so many good films that are often called political comedies — Four Lions, Borat, numerous war movies — but for my purposes, a film had to feature politicians, world leaders or at the very least some folks who were running for something,...

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.
The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.
Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.
2019-20 TV Cancellations And Renewals For Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet (La to Vegas), Outmatched harkened back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm In the Middle. It centered on a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.
“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.
The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

The latest variation on network sitcoms’ beloved “a family, but with [x complication],” Fox’s “Outmatched” flips the usual parent-child dynamic on its head by following an Atlantic City family, including three bonafide genius kids who are too smart for their bewildered parents to understand. Each time one of their children tests off the charts, Mike (Jason Biggs) and Cay (Maggie Lawson) groan in preemptive exhaustion, imagining all the highbrow projects and questions their progeny will have for them that they, in turn, have no idea how to handle. They, as every other joke reminds us with the bluntness of a neon billboard, are just too dumb to keep up.
From prolific sitcom producer Lon Zimmet, “Outmatched” does have some sharp moments, especially when it sits in the uniquely weird disconnect between parents and kids who share few interests, or underlines the difference in how the capital g “Gifted” children interact with...

Danza was just set for this and will be at the table reading Monday morning as he separately decides between several offers for his own sitcom vehicle.

The Fox comedy “Dan the Weatherman” is recasting two key roles, Variety has learned.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher is joining the project as Deborah, taking over the role played in the original pilot by Ashley Williams. Jack Stanton will play Dan Jr., the role originally played by Dashiell McGaha-Schletter. The pair will join the rest of the cast to re-shoot scenes from the pilot this summer, with the single-cam series still in contention for a midseason pickup at the broadcaster.
Williams most recently appeared as Ariel in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” in addition to starring in fellow ABC series “Kevin Probably Saves the World.” Her other TV credits include roles in “Reba,” “The Astronaut Wives Club,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Animal Practice.
For Stanton, joining “Dan the Weatherman” keeps him in the Fox family. He previously starred as Ben in the Fox comedy series “The Mick,” which was recently canceled after two seasons.

A little more than a year after a hot start last midseason, Fox’s comedy series The Mick is getting a cancellation. The network has opted not to order a third season of the show starring It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson.
The network today also canceled The Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Fox brass had been firmly behind The Mick from the get-go, launching the series, created by John and Dave Chernin, behind an NFL double-header on Sunday and then giving it another special Sunday airing behind The Simpsons‘ first-ever one-hour episode. Three episodes into The Mick‘s 13-episode freshman run, the network gave the series an order for four additional episodes, which was followed by an early Season 2 renewal.
But the comedy mostly fizzled in its second season, averaging a 1.2 adults 18-49 in Live+7, on par with Brooklyn Nine Nine (1.3), The Last Man...

“The Mick” Season 2 ends tonight, and star Kaitlin Olson needs the break: She cracked a rib while filming last week’s episode. “It was so stupid,” Olson told TheWrap, explaining that it happened while shooting a scene in which her character tried to save Ben (Jack Stanton) from roasting while locked in an old cop car on a hot day. “It was just throwing the rock onto the car. We just changed the camera angle so I had to walk around to a different side of the car.” “I had to reach a little bit further to get the windshield and...

The first season finale of “The Mick” literally exploded when the mansion that Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) and her niece and nephews were living in burned down. Now the second season finale is poised to present another “What in the world are they going to do to get out of that situation?” promises series star and executive producer Olson.
“I’m not a really big fan of shock value, but big is Ok with me as long as we earn it,” Olson tells Variety. “I just want to do stuff that I haven’t seen before because those are the kinds of things in my life that make me laugh — when you can’t see it coming.”

Fox premiered three new comedies last season, renewed The Mick and cancelled the other two. Although its total audience size landed in the bottom half of the network's 2016-17 series, The Mick TV show's 18-49 demo ratings were a top-ten performer and are likely why it was the sole surviving newbie sitcom. Can it build up its audience in the second season? Will The Mick be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. From creators Dave Chernin and John Chernin, The Mick stars Kaitlin Olson, Sofia Black-d’Elia, Thomas Barbusca, Jack Stanton, Carla Jimenez, and Scott MacArthur. Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Which child star is giving the best performance on TV today? (Must have appeared in a show that aired in 2017 or is about to air for midseason.)
Soraya Nadia McDonald (@SorayaMcDonald), The Undefeated
Alex Hibbert. The kids in “The Chi” are one of my favorite elements of the show, and Hibbert gives his performances a wonderful, innocent interiority that just draws you in. I was curious to see what his future would be like after “Moonlight.” I’m glad to see he’s playing a kid with normal, relatable kid-like problems (like having a schoolboy crush) while also taking on some serious challenges, again, by witnessing...

Fox is giving another vote of confidence to new comedy series The Mick, handing the midseason entry an early Season 2 renewal, the first freshman Fox series to get a pickup for next season.

Three episodes into The Mick‘s 13-episode freshman run, the network gave the series an order for four additional episodes.
The football-boosted premiere of The Mick on Jan. 1, drew a 3.7 Live+same day rating among Adults 18-49, the highest-rated comedy debut on Fox since New Girl, with the post-Simpsons airing logging a 1.7. In its regular Tuesday slot, The Mick started with a 1.3 (L+Sd) and has settled into the 1.0-1.1 adults 18-49 L+Sd range in the past five airings.

A “Mick” is defined as an Irishman. At least, that’s what the dictionary states, but looking beyond the definition, one finds a few key words: It’s an “informal” and “offensive” term, making the meaning found on UrbanDictionary.com — the dictionary for the streets — all the more appropriate.
Mick – derogatory word for Irish people. The origin of the word is disputed. Some believe “mick” comes from the common “Mc” in many Irish names: McSorley, McNeil, McFlannagan, etc. Others believe it’s related to the sound of a drunken hiccup. e.g. “I was the captain *mick* of a ship *mick* for three years!”
Also, “Mick” is the word that “spick” [a derogatory term for Spanish people] came from.
With all this in mind, merely titling a show “The Mick” invites the assumption of utter outrageousness; content aimed to offend sensitive viewers brave enough to tackle it and delight those who favor abysmal behavior. Putting “It...
