Disney’s Snow White took in just $1.5 million on Friday in the U.S., dropping 60% from its daily total one week ago.
The movie is now in fourth place at the domestic box office (video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie immediately shot to No. 1), and currently sits at $72 million, putting it in serious danger of failing to hit the $100 million milestone in North America. This would be a disastrous result for a film with a reported production budget of $250 million.
Snow White received mixed-negative reviews from critics (it's now dropped to 40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences did seem to be getting a little more out of it for the most part (71%). That said, CinemaScore recently revealed that the movie has earned a B+ grade, which isn't terrible by any means, but is reportedly the lowest ever CinemaScore for any live-action Disney remake. Snow White North America Box Office: 3rd Weekend Projection (Photo Credit –Facebook)
Snow White’s perils continue as the film is in its third weekend. It is still failing to earn favorable box office collections. To add more to its troubles, A Working Man received fairly positive reactions from the viewers, and now A Minecraft Movie is taking away all the limelight. The film is expected to hit a significant mark at the North American box office but still remains significantly far from hitting the $100 million mark. Keep scrolling for the deets.
The Disney movie is expected to cost a loss of $100 million+ in its lifetime. Marc Webb’s film is in the limelight but in a negative way. The musical fantasy diverted from the traditional story, and Andrew Burnap served as a new character who is the main character’s love interest. The story follows Rachel Zegler’s character,...

Rachel Zegler has been at the receiving end of backlash ever since she was cast as the Fair Princess in Disney’s live-action Snow White remake. While initially it was her casting and ‘not looking the part’ that drew criticism, today, the controversy has gotten out of hand.
While fans are already criticising the actress, several celebrities have joined in on the ‘hate.’ Although there have been enough supporters of the actress, both among fans and within the industry, the hate against the 23-year-old has gotten out of hand. Well, here is a look at the matter.

Rachel Zegler has reason to celebrate the Snow White remake despite the consistent backlash the film and her casting as the beloved Disney princess has faced. The live-action adaptation recently helped Zegler break new box-office ground in her short career.
Via The Numbers, Disney's Snow White remake is now the second-highest-grossing movie Zegler has starred in, earning $142.8 million worldwide since its March 21 release. However, the film is far from Zegler's most commercially successful big-screen entry, Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which made $349 million in global ticket sales. But the Snow White live-action film has helped Zegler's movies reach the $700 million milestone.
The Snow White remake has made a lot of critics grumpy, with the film getting a lowly 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, despite Zegler receiving some commendation for her performance as the title character. Fans are less bashful in their praise for the live-action movie, however, with...

As the polarizing Snow White remake continues to garner grumpy reactions from critics and fans, it appears the film's set for a sleepy second weekend at the box office. The Disney live-action adaptation is on track for a significant second-weekend dropoff as the controversy surrounding it continues to be its biggest talking point.
Per Deadline, the Rachel Zegler-led Snow White reinterpretation's domestic box-office return is projected to drop by 53% during its second weekend in cinemas, earning around $20 million. Despite the dropoff, the Snow White remake is expected to remain at the top of the box office charts, with its stiffest competition coming from Jason Statham's action film, A Working Man, and Death of a Unicorn, the new horror comedy featuring Ant-Man franchise star Paul Rudd and former Scream film series actor Jenna Ortega.

Snow White North America Box Office: Crosses One Mini Milestone ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s magnum opus, Snow White, is turning out to be a major dud at ticket windows. It was expected to do well considering the pre-release buzz around itself but unfortunately, the film is heading for a premature ending at the North American box office and it seems that even the $100 million mark will be missed. Keep reading for a detailed collection report!
Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action reimagining of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was theatrically released last Friday. Before making a domestic debut, the film opened in selected markets like France and Italy. Domestically, it opened on March 21. Poor reviews and word-of-mouth took a toll on the run, thus posting a disappointing total on the board.

Disney's Snow White hit theaters last Friday, and the movie has not been performing very well at the box office, making just $43 million over the course of its opening weekend in the U.S. The latest updates put the fantasy adventure at just under $50M domestic, but it still hasn't reached $100M worldwide.
Critics have not been overly kind to Disney's latest live-action remake, although it's important to note that the movie has been the source of "controversy" for quite a while, with stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot both coming in for backlash for their very different stances on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Zegler also made some comments about the original animated classic that didn't go over very well with fans.

The following contains spoilers for 2025's Snow White, now playing in theaters.
When it comes to Disney's live-action remakes, there will always be a number of critics and fans holding them to the highest standards. It was seen with The Jungle Book and The Lion King, and will also likely factor into the reception of Lilo & Stitch's remake when hits theaters. This is all due to people having a high affinity for Disney's animated classics.
Marc Webb's Snow White falls under the same microscope. While the box office intake isn't terrible, the movie's reviews are unfortunately not favorable. While it's by no means a terrible remake as Cbr's Snow White review indicates, there are still flaws that have turned reviewers off.

There's no hiding from the fact that Disney's Snow White has managed to find relative early success in a year dominated by underperformance. Although the film might have earned less than Disney execs may have liked on its opening weekend, an $85 million opening has placed Snow White firmly among the highest earners of the year so far, ready to overtake Mickey 17 and enter the top 5 for 2025, albeit only a third of the way into the year. This, of course, doesn't take away from the fact that Snow White has a reported budget of $240-270 million, with it already unlikely that any sort of financial success will have been realized come Snow White's theatrical exit.
Critically, the movie has fared even worse than at the box office, with its opening score on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes of 45% officially dropping even lower after its opening weekend. Now, Snow White is anything but the fairest of them all,...

Othello
Opening night: March 23, 2025
Venue: Broadway’s Barrymore Theatre
Written by: William Shakespeare
Directed by: Kenny Leon
Cast: Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal, Molly Osborne, Andrew Burnap, Anthony Michael Lopez, Daniel Pearce, Kimber Elayne Sprawl, Neal Bledsoe, Julee Cerda, Ezra Knight, Gene Gillette, Rob Heaps, and William Connell, Ty Fanning, Ben Graney, Daniel Reece, Christina Sajous, Greg Wood, with swing Abiola Obatolu.
Running time: 2 hr 35 min (with intermission)
Deadline’s takeaway: Othello, director Kenny Leon’s new Broadway staging of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies starring two of our greatest actors – Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal – in two of the Bard’s best roles doesn’t take too long to recover from an odd misstep: the projection of words onto a back wall suggesting the time is The Near Future. The modern-dress production – a practice that’s become so common among stagings of Shakespeare over recent decades that the disclaimer is anything but necessary.

There’s no denying Denzel Washington’s magnetism. He carries himself with a swaggering authority enhanced by the natural gravitas of his voice. The two-time Oscar winner is the principal reason audiences are shelling out upwards of $900 to see Kenny Leon’s frustratingly underpowered revival of Othello on Broadway. Playing the Venetian general often disparagingly referred to as “the Moor,” Washington emanates the steely charisma of a man who has risen above casual racism by virtue of his military prowess. But there’s little evidence of a driving force behind his performance, which is symptomatic of the production overall.
Staged on a stately set of distressed classical grandeur designed by Derek McLane, this stylish but shallow modern-dress Othello is set in “The Near Future,” as an opening projection informs us. But that’s as close to an overarching concept as Leon gets.

Disney is no stranger to controversies. Since its creation, and release of its first animated film, 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the studio has become of the biggest names in the film industry, and its continuous changes have often come with pushback from audiences.

Disney's Snow White arrived in theaters on Friday, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake looks set for a disappointing opening weekend at the box office.
The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, came in under already modest $45 million estimates with a $43 million domestic debut. The movie took in another $44.3 million overseas, which means it will fail to hit its predicted $100 million global bow with just $87.3 million.
This was enough to give Snow White the No. 1 spot, and the movie is sure to benefit from a lack of big-screen competition for the next couple of weeks before A Minecraft Movie hits theaters.
A recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which obviously puts a lot of pressure on the movie to...

Snow White Now Set For $45M Debut After Recieving Worst CinemaScore Of Any Disney Live-Action Remake
Disney's Snow White is now in theaters, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake isn't exactly off to the most magical start at the domestic box office.
The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, took in $16 million on Friday (including Thursday pre-shows), which is just slightly higher than 2019's Dumbo.
Despite initial estimates of $50 million, the movie is now on track for a $45 million (some believe it'll be closer to $48M) opening weekend in the U.S., but is still expected to pass (or at least hit) $100 million worldwide by Monday.

Snow White is obviously a remake of Walt Disney's 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but it appears Disney also used it as a stealth reboot for another one of their beloved animated classics. One that they seemingly can't make a straightforward remake of. Despite some online commentators spending nearly two years of their lives saying Snow White would change so much from the original movie, with some new added elements like an improved ending.
However, one major element Snow White changes regards Snow White's love interest. In the original film, it is a Prince. Here, the remake turns the Prince into a bandit named Jonathan (Andrew Burnap). Jonathan is no knight in shining armor; in fact, he is an outlaw who lives in the woods with his own group of outlaws who are fighting against the Queen, even stealing what they need to get by. Family adventure films have long drawn mileage from quest narratives layered atop allegorical fairy tales. But in an era where Disney’s commodified storytelling has evolved into a saturated subgenre of intellectual property mining, it’s worth revisiting how 1937’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” first unlocked a vault of canonical fairy tales that shaped the animation industry. As the first-ever U.S. animated feature, the film not only made waves worldwide with its groundbreaking innovation and craftsmanship but also cemented itself as an inextricable part of Disney’s brand identity.

Disney’s live-action remake of ‘Snow White’ hit theaters recently, and it’s stirring up some chatter. This isn’t just another retelling of the classic tale—it’s made history, but not in the way the studio might have hoped. Audiences gave it a B+ on CinemaScore, which tracks how moviegoers feel right after watching. That’s a decent mark for most films, but for Disney’s track record with live-action remakes, it stands out as the lowest ever.
The film brings Rachel Zegler into the spotlight as Snow White, with Gal Gadot playing the wicked Evil Queen. Directed by Marc Webb, it’s a musical take on the 1937 animated original, complete with new songs and a fresh spin on the story. Zegler’s known for her breakout role in ‘West Side Story,’ while Gadot’s no stranger to big roles, having starred in ‘Wonder Woman.’ The cast also...

Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is here, taking the 1937 animated film into the real world, dwarves and all.
Although technically, in this version, they aren’t dwarves. As explained in the movie, they’re magical creatures that have lived in the woods for hundreds of years. That said, they still take on the names of the original seven dwarves.
And of course, there are some recognizable humans on screen as well as lending their voices to the merry bunch.

Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animations is “Snow White,” and if you’re wondering how close it sticks to the original, you’re not alone. Especially when it comes to the songs.
Now in theaters, the film follows Snow White (Rachel Zegler), a young princess who loses both of her parents and now lives with just the Evil Queen. Snow remembers the kingdom as it was under her parents’ rule though, pushing the Queen to act with kindness and fairness. You can guess how that goes.
In terms of story, it does deviate from the original 1937 film in various places — including the songs. For the 2025 version, Disney tapped Egot-winning “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known together as Pasek and Paul, to create original songs for the film. But don’t worry, you’ll definitely hear a few of the classics.

Directed by Marc Webb, Disney’s Snow White was one of the anticipated movies of 2025, and it stars Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap. The movie is a live-action adaptation of the 1937 animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Since the announcement of the movie, it has received backlash for casting, story changes, the reimagining of the Seven Dwarfs, and the lead actress’ comments about the original animated movie.

On this week’s “Screen Talk,” we take a closer look at the three cities vying to become Sundance’s new home. We are also discussing Plan B’s extraordinary limited series, “Adolescence.” And we’ll parse that amazing last episode of “The White Lotus.”
We also debate the merits of Disney’s controversial live-action “Snow White” and ask why Warner Bros. has it in for animation. As of March 16, the studio has removed the Looney Tunes cartoon shorts library (released 1930-1969), starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, and Wile E. Coyote from streaming service Max. “They’re trashing the past,” said Anne. “Warner Discovery CEO David Zaslav will do anything to save a dime.”
Under his direction, the studio hasn’t been kind to animation. The “Looney Tunes” live-action hybrid film “Coyote vs. Acme” was scrapped by Wbd in 2023 before the film was set to start streaming on Max,...

Disney’s latest magnum opus, Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, arrived early in selected overseas centers before going all out in the United States. As long as they keep making money, Disney is going to continue cranking out live-action remakes of its animated classics, even if it means sacrificing its magic in the process. All art is subjective, which means there's no universal truth to declaring what determines the "best" or "worst" of these reimaginings, but I can say with confidence that Rachel Zegler is, hands down, the best live-action Disney Princess we've ever seen. Mind you, I have a deep affinity for Lily James' absolutely perfect portrayal of Cinderella, but I also lamented that she didn't get to sing "A dream is a wish your heart makes." Meanwhile, I'm far less critical of Emma Watson's Belle than most critics, mostly because the "Beauty and the Beast" retelling isn't great, but I can still admit something was lacking to transcend the character into the kind of unignorable magnetism inherent in all Disney Princesses.

Well, they’re at it again. I’m speaking of the “brain trust” at the “Mouse House” who are diving into the Disney Classics vault once more to remake another one of their animated features. And this is their “deepest dive” yet in this “sub-genre” of “re-imagining” those “2-D”, hand-drawn animated masterpieces into “live-action” films that will hopefully attract a new audience (and enhance the ole’ “I.P.”). It perhaps started nearly thirty years ago with 101 Dalmatians, and had its biggest success with 2019’s The Lion King, with spin-offs like the “backstories” of villains Maleficent and Cruella and the recent prequel/sequel Mufasa: The Lion King. Now it’s “back to the beginning” with a live “re-do” of what was then jeeringly referred to (by the “Tinseltown” gossips) as “Walt’s Folly” in 1937, as animation formally (there had been a few silent-era experiments) burst out of the six or seven-minute...

Chicago – The latest Disney Studio live action reboot of an animated classic is the worst thing to happen to “Snow White” since the poisoned apple. This woebegone misfire in re-imagining the 1937 film hit a new low with this incompetent, incoherent, and incomprehensible miscalculation of epic proportions.
Rachel Zegler is Snow White, a princess daughter of a benevolent king and queen … but her mother the queen later dies. Enter the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot), who disappears the king and makes Snow White a scullery maid. When the mirror routine happens … who’s the fairest of them all? … and determines Snow White instead of the Evil One, the Queen banishes her to the forest. There she meets seven dwarves and a Robin Hood type named Jonathan (Andrew Burnap) – essentially the prince in this story – who leads a gang who are loyal to Snow’s father. Snow’s new team then sets out to get the kingdom back.

Snow White Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap, and Jeremy Swift
Director: Marc Webb
Snow White Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
What’s Good: Rachel Zegler proves the haters wrong with a solid performance, and we can only hope she comes out unscathed from this.
What’s Bad: Gal Gadot has run out of goodwill from the first Wonder Woman film, and her performance here is truly a horror to behold.
Loo Break: You know this story, and you have seen it hundreds of times before, so any moment is a good one to go to the loo and take a break.
Watch or Not?: This is a definitive pass; it is the worst of the Disney live-action films, and it is just a terrible way to start the blockbuster season for the year.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Theatrical release
Runtime: 109 Minutes.

The film business has always been a gamble, and it is not easy for every project or movie to turn out to be a success. A high-stakes game where the odds are always greater, each year, hundreds of millions of dollars, hard work, effort, and time are spent on making blockbuster films, hoping for record-breaking box office returns. However, as history stands as a testament, not every big-budget spectacle turns out to be a major hit, and more often than not, they end up underperforming.

Plot: An enchanted kingdom is ruined by its evil Queen (Gal Gadot). Their only hope is a kind-hearted princess named Snow White (Rachel Zegler), whose youth and beauty are coveted by the Queen.
Review: Snow White has to be one of the most ridiculously controversial movies in recent memory. It’s become something of a political hot potato, with its detractors claiming it would be overly “woke” based on some clumsy quotes attributed to the movie’s star. Whatever those quotes might have promised, there’s nothing particularly incendiary about this retelling of the Disney classic, and there’s certainly nothing particularly woke about it, with it hitting most of the same beats as the original. However, that doesn’t mean it’s good either.

Ahead of the wide release of Disney’s Snow White, the film’s first reviews from critics have been rolling in on Wednesday, and they’ve been decidedly mixed.
Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sees a princess, Snow White (Rachel Zegler), join forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).
For years, the film has been under fire for a combination of controversies, including Zegler’s casting and her opinionated remarks about the original animated film. The star also drew heat for her hostile reaction to Donald Trump’s re-election (she later apologized) and her pro-Palestine stance. People on social media have also attempted to paint a feuding narrative between Zegler and Gadot, the latter of which has spoken out against antisemitism and advocated for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

The debut score has been revealed for the new Snow White remake. Even ahead of its release, the film was rather polarizing, and that trend will continue with the divisive Rotten Tomatoes score.
Heading into its opening weekend, Snow White has garnered a debut score on Rotten Tomatoes of 48%. Initially, the early reactions from critics on social media were very promising, though with many other critics having more harsh opinions, the Rotten Tomatoes score is almost firmly right in the middle of the road. The number may continue to fluctuate as added reviews come in, but this is a clear indicator that the critics can't agree on how they feel about Snow White.
"Snow White offers a fresh spin on the classic tale that is elevated to the realm of a new original musical thanks to tracks by Pasek and Paul," reads one glowing review by Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet.

One major change in the live-action remake of Snow White is the removal of the Prince Charming character and the introduction of Jonathan, played by Tony Award winner Andrew Burnap.
In the original 1937 animated movie, Prince Charming falls in love with Snow White after hearing her sing and then saves her with a true love’s kiss at the end of the movie.
Rachel Zegler revealed years ago that Snow White was “not going to be saved by the prince” in the remake, noting that there would be “modern” changes to the story.

Disney’s latest live-action remake, Snow White, directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man), breathes new life into the beloved 1937 animated classic. Starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) in the titular role and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) as the Evil Queen, the film updates the fairy tale with a modern sensibility while retaining the heart of the original.
With a mix of practical and CGI effects, the film brings to life an enchanted kingdom filled with breath-taking landscapes, expressive woodland creatures, and a group of digital dwarves—a creative choice that has sparked discussion among fans of the original movie.
The story follows Snow White, a kind and intelligent young princess who is forced to flee her kingdom after her jealous stepmother, the Evil Queen, deems her a threat.
Taking refuge in the enchanted forest, she encounters a band of misfit outcasts who help her embrace her destiny as a leader.

With all the turmoil besetting the real world, you’d think there might be more important things to inflate into controversies than the pre-release kerfuffles that have plagued “Snow White.” As it turns out, this is one of the better live-action adaptations of a Disney animated feature. And I say that as someone who mostly doesn’t like them. Yes, I’ve enjoyed a couple. At heart, though, I still don’t truly get the idea of Disney strip-mining its animated IP — and doing so not because there’s anything inherently appealing about turning painterly fairy-tale cartoons into stilted, less sublime real-life versions of themselves. What the remakes are selling is the theme-park novelty of the transformation: Look, here’s what an animated classic looks like when it’s retrofitted with sets and actors!
All that said, the chirpy, vivacious, just-romantic-enough-to-get-by “Snow White” proves to be an exception to the rule.

Disney's live-action adaption of Snow White arrives on the silver screen after years of production controversies and significant blowback to star Rachel Zegler's political rhetoric. Snow White stays mostly true to the classic cartoon's beloved narrative with enchanting performances, fantastic musical numbers, and just enough darkness to soften the sweet sentiments. Hearts will swell as a magnificent fable champions the virtues of kindness and community over greed and villainy. Snow White is far from the "woke" disaster certain audiences have predicted, and perhaps hoped for, since the trailer's release.

If every movie is also a documentary of the moment in which it’s made — big up the French filmmaker behind that quote — it’s way more interesting to think of this new, live-action Snow White as a time capsule for our through-the-looking-glass moment than as a fresh take on a Disney staple. Thanks to comic strips, theatrical productions, and several early attempts to adapt this fairy tale for the screen (including the 1916 version a teen Walt Disney saw in Kansas City, Missouri, which had a formative impact on his...

In this pessimistic, cynical world of ours it’s easy to get hung up on the negative, so let’s try to be positive. There’s nothing wrong with Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” that couldn’t be fixed by making it 26 minutes shorter, 88 years ago and in hand-drawn animation.
There’s also nothing wrong with Rachel Zegler’s performance. The “West Side Story” star has walked right out of the classic cartoon, with a pitch perfect singing voice, spot-on physicality, and a theatrical, emotional performance that resonates. Zegler received endless, cruel insults from so-called Disney fans who objected to her casting — for reasons that ran from racist, to racist with other bad reasons too — but she’s the only participant in this production who completely understood the assignment and brings “Snow White” to actual, meaningful life.

Another live-action remake from the Mickey Mouse studio, another season of inflated controversies and extremist behavior from those swayed by questionable agendas. Whether it’s Rachel Zegler’s (West Side Story) casting as Snow White, potential narrative changes, the actress’ criticism of the original film, or the decision to use CGI dwarfs instead of real actors, the truth is that none of these controversies are actually relevant to expectations or one’s eventual opinion of the movie. In fact, I have no interest in them whatsoever.
The online debate has been drowned in exasperating noise, fueled by the same bad-faith channels that thrive on artificial outrage and wide-eyed thumbnail reactions. We already know what’s going to happen: Snow White will be relentlessly review-bombed, making ratings on various public platforms utterly meaningless.

The first feature film produced with cel animation, Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remains a visual delight 88 years after its release. And though it’s almost entirely a slapstick comedy—the dwarfs’ madcap adventures in washing up for supper make up a surprisingly large chunk of the film’s 80 minutes—there’s a specificity in the vaudevillian energy that keeps the silliness from ever becoming cloying.
But as far as plot and characterization goes, it’s rather thin (the dwarfs’ names are descriptive adjectives after all). That, though, is intentional, as the story is merely a picnic blanket for the animators’ feast. And though there are similarly aesthetic joys to be found, along with some charming performances, in Marc Webb’s live-action remake, titled simply (and pointedly) Snow White, the original tale proves too skeletal to support the film’s weightier ambitions.

If you’re looking for a laundry list of the controversies that have beset Disney’s latest live-action remake, the Marc Webb-directed “Snow White,” we’ll direct you to that subsection on the film’s Wikipedia page and then move swiftly onward because none of that really applies to the task at hand. Put more bluntly: as a remarkably sensible audience member said to me at the conclusion of our screening, “After all that?”
Yes, after all that, Webb’s Rachel Zegler-starring film is good. Not great, but certainly good, spirited and sweet and filled with wonderful songs and some canny updates to extremely dated material. And while that might not be good enough for some potential audience members, let’s be honest: There are just some people who were never going to loosen up to a “colorblind” fairy tale or one that dared ask, “Hey, what if a woman could like,...

Of all the Disney animated classics to have been given the live-action treatment, few are more beloved than 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a landmark feature that opened the door to a whole vault of canonical fairy tales ideally suited to the form. That, in turn, led to original stories, building the studio a vast, field-leading toon library and a legacy beloved the world over. If Snow White arrives accompanied by an echo chamber of overblown online controversies, that has zero bearing on the pleasures of this 21st century update. Even those with knives out for the movie might have to admit it’s no poisoned apple.
Having turned this particular form of brand extension and IP strip-mining into a subgenre unto itself, Disney’s live-action remake boom — which has ballooned into a full-scale explosion in the past decade — has been a mixed bag. Some are such products...

After raiding the crown jewels for just about every live-action reboot imaginable, Disney has finally gotten around to the one that started it all, the 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. That film represents Walt Disney’s first-ever full-length animated feature.
Originally, Disney’s plan was to rerelease its animated vault treasures every seven years for a new generation of kids, but they got the bright idea to instead remake those films as live-action features. Thus we have had versions of Sleeping Beauty reimagined around evil Maleficent; Peter Pan; Fantasia; Dumbo; Pinocchio; three variations on 101 Dalmatians including Cruella; The Lion King; Jungle Book; Aladdin; Mulan; Alice In Wonderland; The Little Mermaid; and an unfortunate attempt to meddle with my favorite, Lady and the Tramp among others. The best in the live-action genre to date remain Bill Condon’s blockbuster Beauty and the Beast and Kenneth Branagh’s splendid Cinderella.

Disney's Snow White remake continues to get the cold shoulder as it approaches its theatrical debut. Following good early feedback, the Rachel Zegler-led live-action adaptation gets more mixed reviews and less encouraging opening weekend projections than anticipated.
Per X (formerly Twitter), several critics took to the social media platform to voice their opinions about Snow Whiteafter watching it for the first time. While some critics praised Zegler's work as the titular Disney princess, they weren't sold on the movie being a fitting remake of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, including criticizing the casting of Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Tessa Smith of Mama's Geeky claimed Gadot feels "extremely out of place" as Snow White's stepmother and wasn't a fan of how the dwarfs were presented. Meanwhile, Dancin' Dan in Movieland claimed Gadot "aims for camp fabulosity" and criticized the new songs for not mirroring the spirit of the classic movie.

Disney's Snow White arrives in theaters this weekend, and updated box office estimates are in. We also have some more social media reactions following the latest press screenings.
According to Deadline, the Mouse House's latest live-action remake is on track to take in between a $45M-$50M in North America and another $55M abroad for a worldwide debut of around $100M.
This wouldn't usually be seen as a bad start, but a recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which puts a lot of pressure on the movie to become a massive box office success. The movie won't have much in the way of competition for a while, but it'll need strong legs to get it where it needs to be.
