ZEE5 Global, announced the release of Jhund, starring Amitabh Bachchan on 6th May exclusively on the platform. The film is an autobiography based on the life of Vijay Barse; a real-life hero and founder of Slum Soccer, an organisation which works for the wellbeing and development of children from underprivileged backgrounds with an acumen to play football.
Jhund brings to the fore the life of a slum dweller and his struggle to achieve his dream. The protagonist uses his life experience to make a way for himself and his community to break the social barriers, inspiring millions of youths to be passionate about their dreams and making them a reality with dedication and determination. Portraying their roles flawlessly, over a dozen kids and young adults, like Ankush Gedam, Akash Thosar, Rinku Rajguru to name few make the film larger than life. Jhund
Starring Amitabh Bachchan
Written & Directed by Nagraj Manjule
Jhund gets it right… Eventually. While it finds its way out into the light, there is plenty that Jhund gets wrong. The slum-soccer theme goes from dream to scheme with scarcely a scream . It all happens too abruptly: one minute we see Vijay Borade(real name Barse)scrutinizing the slumboys as reformative cases. The next thing we know the boys are rallying around their soccer messiah , their distrust and disdain magically alchemized into a deep commitment. Soon after they are playing that decisive match: you know, the one where the underdogs will beat the football snobs on the field while the two coaches from the two sides speak of their teams with the protective ferocity of lions guarding cubs.
But the pre-intermission match just goes on and on, and on. And yet barring one, we barely get an opportunity to get to know the slumkids closely.

200 Halla Ho (Zee5)
Directed by Sarthak Dasgputa/Alok Batra
Just the fact that we get to see the ever-dependable Amol Palekar back doing what he knows best after so long, is reason enough to watch this real-life gruesome melodrama about a mass rapist brought to task by a horde of angry women. Angry Dalit women. The difference is vital and it changes the narrative in life as it does in art.
200 Halla Ho is too rough at the edges to be considered art. When we see shouting hooting wailing women swoop down on the culprit armed with knives and red chillies, we are forced to recall Ketan Mehta’s neo-classic Mirch Masala. The women here are not half as beautiful as the ones in Mirch Masala….yeah yeah, I can see those scary women throwing the Dalit card at me.

Unpaused (Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Raj-dk, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun Dhaware, Nitya Mehra
Straightaway, I must say the anthology comes as a welcome surprise.
When I heard of a Covid anthology I thought it would one of those let’s-make-hay-while-the-sun-shines kind of obscenely exploitative ventures. Thankfully, the films are born out of compassion rather than greed. The Covid theme flows organically out of the stories, and the characters are never allowed to feel sorry for themselves. These are bright stories burnished with a directorial acumen that elevates the theme from a topical statement to an enduring experience.
In the story Rat-a-Tat(inaptly clever title just because it’s got a rat in it) one of my favourite segments of the omnibus, a 65-year old uperclass woman(Lilette Dubey) finds herself getting close to a young feisty Maharashtrian girl who moves in from nextdoor when a rat infests her apartment.

Unpaused, with five stories that attempt to define the mood of urban India during lockdown, suffers from that problem. The film starts off on a high note, hits a slump immediately after that, and somehow manages to recover in the stories that follow.
Anthologies can be erratic -- in pace, tone and overall storytelling. When you have multiple directors calling the shots on multiple sets of actors in standalone stories, it is hard to find cohesion of quality. The parts that make up the entirety are often never consistently good or bad.
The uneven quality about Unpaused extends to the film's ability to surprise, too. The top pick, in terms of a unique idea, has to be the first story, Raj and Dk's Glitch. The story is quietly scary in the way it imagines an India in the future that has all but lost its battle with the coronavirus. Covid-...

Mumbai, Dec 8 (Ians) Filmmakers Raj and Dk, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun and Nitya Mehra will explore the themes of new beginnings and moving on through five different short films, which have been shot during the ongoing Covid pandemic.
The five short films comprise the anthology "Unpaused", the trailer of which was released on Tuesday.
Raj and Dk have made "Glitch", starring Gulshan Devaiah and Saiyami Kher. It is about a hypochondriac man who meets a strange girl on a blind date.
"Creating 'The Family Man' was a liberating experience for us as content creators, and the assurance of thinking unconstrained encouraged us to extend our collaboration with 'Glitch'. We loved making the short, as we tried a new style and genre! It was a bizarrely unique experience shooting it during the pandemic, and with all kinds of restrictions," said Raj and Dk.

It is true that India is the country that produces the largest number of films every year. Thousands of new titles in many languages pour into our screens every year. They include both big-budget films with major movie stars that have the backing of the biggest studios and production houses and also a growing and thriving independent cinema which produces many of the best movies every year.
There are films which manage to generate pre-release buzz and are highly anticipated by the movie going audience. The buzz could result from the involvement of major stars, a grand scale, subject matter that catches our fancy, an encouraging response to the trailer or in some cases, nationwide controversy.
The big event releases worldwide like “Avengers:Endgame” or the final season of “Game of Thrones” have seen unparalleled excitement from fans and it will be the same in India. However, this article will restrict itself to Indian movies.

Nagraj Manjule, a prominent Indian filmmaker from Maharashtra, has, in a short span of time, already made people take notice of him with his first few films. In 2013, he came out with Fandry, a film which openly talks about caste discrimination in rural Maharashtra.
