Karmyn Jones is named after the acclaimed musical production, "Carmen Jones", as Karmyn's mother, Barbara, was impressed with the performance of Dorothy Dandridge and the all African American cast. Born in 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, Karmyn is the oldest of 4 children born to David--a minister and educator--and their mother, Barbara (née, Brooks) whose career included administrative positions in the U.S. Army (civilian), hospitals, and with NASA on the Redstone Arsenal, Bendix Automotive, and Whirlpool Corporations.
Karmyn grew up with great storytellers. At the age of 2 years old, her father, David, took Karmyn to see her first film in theaters, Disney's "Pinocchio". From a young age, Karmyn loved listening to her elders relate her family's history, tell of their journeys, and hear of the ways they overcame racism, prejudice, and societal obstacles to accomplish their life-goals. From these early encounters, Karmyn crafted a talent for retelling human experiences from career milestones to celebratory events. She learned that for many of us, events in our nation's history are often intertwined with our own personal life-changing moments.
In response to the popularity of serialized storytelling, Karmyn has created "Holiday Wedding Challenge", "Inn-Tanglement" and "Master of Dreams" projects as limited series. Each episode displays her wick wit, side-splitting physical comedy, and poetic social commentary. "Weave a Story to Tale" is a prestige, multi-season swords and sandals thriller filled with palace intrigue and mystic tangencies told through a storyline of time-travel adventure.
Karmyn's love for retelling Biblical stories of antiquity, by making them relatable to modern listeners, is revealed in many of her projects. Something of old is told in a new ways Carefully with amalgamations of real people based on actual events. Karmyn reshapes the ancient storylines, re-staged in contemporary settings. Through her films, viewers overcome their own life challenges by connecting with any number of Biblical characters who were living, breathing examples worthy of imitation. Growing up in the Midwest, television viewing-as a platform to gain perspectives of the world, gather breaking news, and see expressions of Black experiences, was part of Karmyn's family culture.
As a filmmaker, Jones often directs from her own scripts, drawing on characters she's created with a strong emphasis on the importance of entertainment as a platform to serve as a cultural, spiritual, and educational catalyst for change. To guarantee forward motion, Karmyn self-finances her films for encouraging sustainable budgets.
After an illustrious career as a clinical research scientist and medical writer, Karmyn Jones is experiencing the rewards of screenwriting, producing, and collaborating with other filmmakers. Her robust education in science, medicine, history, and anthropology provide her storytelling with smart attributes that inform her creative writing. Personal interests as a world cuisine gourmand and sports enthusiast are reflected in the crafting of her storylines and the broadening of electrifying her characters.
Whatever the genre, Karmyn maintains a personal commitment to braiding comedy into stories of romance, mystery, adventure, and drama. Her screenplays layer diverse characters with the full complexity of social, economic, cultural, and personal motive; allowing them to resonate with broad audiences and relate to a wide demographic. Mystery movie fans enjoy her subliminal sub-plots, as they think critically about her reticent characters. Viewers' senses are titillated as they follow along to find the puppet master behind the series of explosive events.
A Karmyn Jones project always leaves audiences feeling warm about the importance of family, spirituality, friendship, loving relationships, and maintaining a sense of curiosity and adventure. Her stories bridge borders between geographical, cultural, and generational themes.
For producing value-based films, Karmyn rigorously moves toward more expansive productions by collaborating with a diversity of authentic storytellers. She seeks to add ambition to faith-based filmmaking by appealing to the sector of high-end studios and production companies having the revenue base to throw the fast-pitch to the young adult audience who eagerly connect for the home run. Karmyn believes, "When a film satisfies the appetite of the action-hungry, young male audiences-who are cannibalising the box office, as filmmakers, we satiate the tastes of other viewers, as well."
