Shaun Rose(IV)
- Director
- Writer
- Cinematographer
Shaun Rose was born on December 23rd, 1985, in Saratoga Springs, NY. Around the age of 14, he started to develop a strong love for movies and the filmmaking process. Frequent visits to the local video store fed his growing interest and by the age of 16-17, he started writing his 1st screenplays. Due to inexperience both behind and in front of the camera, as well as the lack of a dedicated supporting cast, he didn't get around to completing his 1st film until 2009 at the age of 23. The result was "Fine Line," a production that saw him rely heavily on the help of his family to complete. His father, Bruce Rose Sr., was credited as co-producer/ writer/ director and even played a part alongside his son. The film was largely a learning experience for Shaun, as he feels it helped him gain a strong grasp of what the process is about. Even with his amateur status, the film got accepted by the NYIIFVF and screened on March 3rd, 2010. Also in 2009, his 2nd feature "Blocked and Sidetracked," was completed. Considered an improvement over the last, it was yet another learning experience. However, this film was also accepted by the NYIIFVF and screened on July 27th, 2010. He was 24.
Thick into the schooling experience and working a full-time job, the opportunity for more personal projects was hard to come by. An attempt to squeeze in a filmed version of "Summer Daze" was quickly abandoned due to time constraints and issues over the physicality of the role. Several student shorts were made in this time period that were well received by his professors and fellow classmates. These include "Without Her" and "Heavy," both in 2013. In March of 2014, a window opened up in his school/ work schedule and he started work on his 3rd feature. Originally titled "I," it was his most personal and ambitious project yet. A brief break from that produced another student short called "Without Him." It served as a companion piece to his earlier short "Without Her" and was also well received by his peers. Following the end of that semester, production picked up heavily on "I" again, but then a location change and laptop crash halted the production. Even after the return of his repaired laptop and salvaged editorial work on the film, severe creative block prevented further work on the film for over 2 years. In the meantime, he obtained his AA degree in film directing.
In April 2016, after over 2 years without any solid progress towards a finished product, Shaun picked up work on the film again, renamed it "Upstate Story" and hopes to complete it by July 2016.
