Veteran visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin, who won Oscars for his work on Christopher Nolan films “Interstellar” and “Inception,” has joined VFX and technology company beloFX as creative director.
Earlier, he spent 25 years at VFX giant Dneg, the company he co-founded in 1998. In joining beloFX, he’s reuniting with fellow Dneg co-founders Matt Holben and Alex Hope.
Holben and Hope co-founded beloFX in 2021 with COO Ellen Walder and Cto Graham Jack, with backing from investor Elisabeth Murdoch. The company operates out of three studios in Canada, the U.K. and India.
Franklin, a long-time collaborator of Nolan, supervised the visual effects for the three films in the “Dark Knight” trilogy. His credits also include “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Venom” and more recently “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
“His unwavering commitment to pushing visual effects to new heights is exactly the type of forward-thinking approach that defines our mission at beloFX.

On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

Suzy Shinn grew up listening to bands like Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, so she was thrilled when Andrew McMahon, the vocalist in both bands, called in December with the beginnings of a solo song. The only problem: They had about three days to finish the track. So she set up in her living room in L.A.’s Los Feliz, called a couple of masked-and-distanced friends to engineer and play violin, and made do. “I was like, ‘All right, now we’re going to make a small symphony...

Alanis Morissette has shared a new track from her upcoming album Such Pretty Forks in the Road, titled “Diagnosis.”
In this simple piano ballad, Morissette tackles the challenges and stigma surrounding depression and other forms of mental illness. Co-written with Michael Farrell and produced by Alex Hope, the lyrics sound strangely prescient nowadays: “I’ve not left the house in a while/I’ve not felt a glimpse of ease/And I have not made much headway/Since I have come back from the war.”

As a movie, “Promising Young Woman,” the debut feature from “Killing Eve” writer/director Emerald Fennell out April 17 via Focus Features, defies easy categorization. Anchored by a star turn from Carey Mulligan, the film blends equal parts thriller and pitch-black comedy with occasional dashes of traditional rom-com and ‘90s noir drama structures. It’s all told through the unique, stylized lens of Fennell, who navigates the viewer through a unique take on post-#MeToo society.
The film’s eclectic mix of genres with a strong female perspective will also be at the forefront of its official soundtrack, due April 3 via Capitol Records. The album will feature eight all-new songs created for the film, including four covers and four original songs. Two of the album’s originals are written and performed by Cyn, whose first single and video from the project, “Drinks,” was released Friday (March 6.) The “Drinks” video, directed by Taylor Fauntleroy,...
