Steven was born and raised in Alice Springs, Australia. He earned his BA in Criminology, and Screen and Culture Studies from The University of Melbourne in 2014, where he was also a member of Ormond College. In 2015 he interned at the Melbourne International Film Festival in the programming department before moving to LA in the fall to commence his MFA at The American Film Institute. He graduated in 2017.
