Afonso was born in Algarve, Portugal, and moved to New York City as a kid with his mother, who was looking for the "American Dream." At age twenty, Afonso joined the US Navy as a Culinary Specialist and had an honorable twelve-year career.
During his service, he did many tours around the world and even went to war for Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom (OIF-OEF). After he left the Navy, Afonso decided it was time to go back to school to follow his dream of being a filmmaker and got his Bachelor of Arts from the City University of New York-Brooklyn College. Afonso is a Screenwriting Fellow with Time Warner (Warner Media) and the Writer's Guild Foundation.
Afonso is a multi-lingual writer, One33 Pictures, Inc. president, WGA member and children's book author.
