William G. Thomas III is an award-winning historian, author, and film producer. A native of Alexandria, Virginia, he writes about American history, law, slavery, and the Civil War. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow and a Lincoln Prize Finalist. His new book is "A Question of Freedom: The Families Who Challenged Slavery from the Nation's Founding to the Civil War" (Yale University Press, November 2020). With partners Michael Burton and Kwakiutl Dreher he is a co-founder of Salt Marsh Productions, LLC, and a co-producer and writer for "Animating History," a series of live-action animated films using historical imagination to tell the stories left out of American history.
