Elizabeth Gillies gets support from Avan Jogia and Daniella Monet at the opening night celebration of her run in Little Shop of Horrors at Westside Theatre on Wednesday (March 5) in New York City.

Meet Me Next Christmas happens to be one of the first of the many Christmas movies set to be released ahead of the holiday season. This new holiday movie on Netflix is about a woman who is seeking a man she had met a year before and made a cute pact with. She meets many people who help her to find ways to meet the guy she assumes is the man of her dreams.

Christina Milian is Layla in Meet Me Next Christmas, who runs into James at an airport lounge and hits it off with him immediately, even though she is in a relationship. Both make a pact to meet next year on Christmas at the Pentatonix concert if they’re both single. Layla remembers the pact a year later when she breaks up with her boyfriend Tanner, only days before the concert on Christmas day.

Next week we’ll start getting serious awards contenders on streaming when “Emilia Perez” debuts on Netflix. This week, though, it’s a light week. Which is not to say our top pick, coming-of-age comedy “My Old Ass,” isn’t worth watching on Prime Video, because it is — and the film’s young star Maisy Stella received a breakthrough award nomination from the Gotham Awards earlier this month.

Stella stars as Elliott, an 18-year-old who, during a mushroom trip, meets her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. Armed with her older self’s advice — and her phone number, so she can text her follow-up questions — Elliott navigates the excitement and heartbreak of the summer before college. It’s the kind of quirky indie comedy Sundance used to produce in droves. It’s now streaming on Prime Video.

Meet Me Next Christmas is the latest in the ever-expanding collection of Netflix Christmas movies. Over the last several years, the streamer has gotten deep into the Christmas movie game. They still have some work to do to catch up to Hallmark, at least in terms of quantity (Hallmark is premiering 32 new Christmas-themed movies this year!). But the Netflix Christmas movies have a very similar vibe. They’re cheesy, corny, fluffy, cute, predictable. They’re comfort food movies, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Enter Meet Me Next Christmas.

Layla (Christina Milian) meets the charming and handsome James (Kofi Siriboe) during a layover at an airport lounge. They have an instant connection, but there’s only one problem: Layla has a boyfriend.

Netflix has packed their 2024 holidays lineup with new romantic comedies, a holiday-themed thriller with Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton, and a new special from Sabrina Carpenter. Holiday offerings include Meet Me Next Christmas, debuting on November 6th and starring Christina Milian, and Hot Frosty on November 13th with Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan.

The Merry Gentlemen, starring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray, debuts on November 20th. Lindsay Lohan headlines Our Little Secret arriving on November 27th. The holiday lineup also includes the animated offerings Spellbound on November 22nd and That Christmas on December 4th.

Exclusive: Victoria Monét and DJ D-Nice will join a lineup of other celebrities at a get-out-the-vote rally in Atlanta on Tuesday for When We All Vote, the organization founded by former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The former First Lady will headline the rally, which will also feature performances by Ari Lennox and a local drumline.

Monét will join other speakers including When We All Vote co-chairs Kerry Washington, Shonda Rhimes, Rita Wilson and Liza Koshy, along with ambassadors Kelly Rowland, Marsai Martin and Ciara. Kalen Allen and Lynae Vanee will co-host.

The rally, which will be live-streamed, will promote first-time and early voting in particular in the state. Early voting ends on Nov. 1.

Others scheduled to attend and speak at the event include Kate Capshaw, EarthGang, Nneka Ogwumike, Reyna Roberts, Patti Scialfa, Lynae Vanee and Lynn Whitfield.

Meet Me Next Christmas is a holiday romantic comedy that follows Layla (Christina Milian) in her quest to reunite with the man of her dreams.

Christina Milian is a woman on a mission in the first trailer for Netflix’s holiday rom-com “Meet Me Next Christmas.”

In pursuit of a fairytale romance with the man of her dreams, Layla (Milian) must race through New York City to get her hands on the hottest ticket in town: the sold out Pentatonix Christmas Eve Concert.

The film from director Rusty Cundieff also stars Devale Ellis, Kofi Siriboe, Tymika Tafari, Kalen Allen, Nikki Duval, Wesley French and Pentatonix’s five members Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee.

Camilla Rubis and Molly Haldeman wrote the script. Marc Roberts serves as a producer, while executive producers include Simon Lythgoe, Matt Code and Milian.

The project marks Milian’s third collaboration with Netflix following her popular destination romances, 2021’s “Resort to Love” — which spent four weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 film list — and 2019’s “Falling Inn Love.

Matthew Patrick may be stepping away from his role as the on-screen host of The Game Theorists, but he will stay active in the creator community. The man known as MatPat has been announced as a Featured Creator for VidCon, which will return to the Anaheim Convention Center on June 26, 2024.

Patrick is no stranger to VidCon. In his previous appearances at the annual convention, he has shared insights from his behind-the-camera work as a digital strategist and consultant. His departure from the Theorist Media brand — which was acquired by startup Lunar X in 2022 — will give him more time to analyze YouTube in detail.

“Unexpected,” a documentary short about Black women living with HIV in the South, will premiere on Hulu on Dec. 1, which is also World AIDS Day.

Produced by “Abbott Elementary” Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph and directed by Zeberiah Newman, “Unexpected” follows activists Ciarra Ci Ci Covin and Masonia Traylor as they create an underground network to help and support women with HIV in the rural South.

The Oscar-qualifying film, which premiered at the 2023 Essence Film Festival, won an Award of Excellence at both The Accolade Global Film Competition and The Impact Docs Awards, and was a Silver Winner at the Telly Awards. It has also screened at the Scad Savannah Film Festival, DC Black Film Festival, Black Women Film Network, Detroit Black Film Festival, The Women’s Film Festival and Cleveland Film Festival.

Ralph’s nonprofit, The Diva Foundation, acquired the film.

Christina Milian continues her streak of rom-coms at Netflix with the upcoming holiday movie “Meet Me Next Christmas.”

The project marks the actor and musician’s third collaboration with Netflix following her popular destination romances, 2021’s “Resort to Love” — which spent four weeks on the streamer’s global top 10 film list — and 2019’s “Falling Inn Love.”

Milian will executive produce and star in “Meet Me Next Christmas,” playing Layla, who, in pursuit of a fairytale romance with the man of her dreams, must race through New York City to get her hands on the hottest ticket in town: the sold out Pentatonix Christmas Eve Concert.

The film also stars Devale Ellis, Kofi Siriboe and Kalen Allen, alongside the Grammy-winning a capella group Pentatonix.

Directed by Rusty Cundieff, “Meet Me Next Christmas” is written by Molly Haldeman and Camilla Rubis. Mark Roberts is producing the project, while Simon Lythgoe and Matt Code executive produce alongside Milian.

Exclusive: Food Network has cooked up its latest Hot List – identifying the food personalities up-and-coming culinary “rock stars” in the content space.

It marks the second list for the Warner Bros. Discovery cable network after publishing its inaugural list in December 2021.

The company said that this year’s list includes a self-described ‘potato queen’, a self-designated ‘kitchen witch,’, restaurateurs and restaurant incubators.

The list includes Serving The Hamptons star Brogan Wu; chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur Esther Choi, chef and culinary manager Fariyal Abdullahi, chef and adventure seeker Gabriele Bertaccini, chef and restaurateur, Julian Rodarte, Michelin-trained chef and social media personality Poppy O’Toole, pastry chef and social justice activist Paola Velez, restaurateur and community activist Jeremy McBryde and chef, restaurateur and Tournament of Champions competitor Shota Nakajima.

Chef Darnell Ferguson is a mentor on Worst Cooks in America: Viral Sensations, alongside Chef Anne Burrell, and it's time to share some facts about the culinary expert. The series recently premiered, and it features a group of contestants that are social media influencers and viral personalities. All of them are very challenged in the kitchen. This is Darnell's first time as a mentor on the show. He and Anne will coach teams until the February 5 finale. During that last episode, the two most improved recruits will go head-to-head, as they serve a three-course, restaurant-quality meal to the judges, Karen Akunowicz, Kalen Allen and Leah Cohen. Allison Holker posted a photo with her late husband, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, on Instagram on Dec. 21, expressing her heartbreak for the first time via social media following his death by suicide one week earlier.

"My One and Only. Oh how my heart aches. We miss you so much," Holker wrote alongside a photo of her and Boss cuddled up close and smiling. Holker shared three children with Boss: 14-year-old daughter Weslie Fowler from Holker's previous relationship (whom Boss had adopted), 6-year-old son Maddox, and 3-year-old daughter Zaia.

Worst Cooks in America: Viral Sensations premieres in January, with a group of social media influencers and viral personalities as contestants, all of whom are very challenged in the kitchen. The series' first installment premiered in 2010, with chefs Anne Burrell and Beau MacMillan as the mentors. Anne has since appeared on every season, including the celebrity editions, along with various co-stars, such as Robert Irvine, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence, Rachael Ray, Alton Brown, Alex Guarnaschelli, Carla Hall, Jeff Mauro, and Cliff Crooks.

The Worst Cooks In America mentors guide the contestants through a culinary boot camp, in order to help them improve their skills, and become proficient in the kitchen. Through the boot camp, they learn various cooking techniques from the mentors, and break their bad habits in the kitchen. Their final challenge is to cook a restaurant-quality, three-course meal for a trio of food critics.

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss worked alongside Ellen DeGeneres for seven years of his long career as a dancer and television personality. After rising to fame with attention-demanding performances on So You Think You Can Dance? in 2008, he joined Ellen in 2014 as a resident DJ and was named executive producer in 2020, remaining in the position until the show ended earlier this year. In the wake of his death at age 40, DeGeneres is paying tribute to her long-time on-screen companion.

“I’m heartbroken,” she shared alongside a photo of herself and Boss engaged in a tight embrace.

The actor, producer, singer-songwriter and TV personality broke out when a viral Kalen Reacts food video caught DeGeneres’ eye and landed Allen a guest appearance on The Ellen Show. That turned into a deal for Allen as a guest contributor for the show and its digital platforms.

Allen won a 2020 Webby Award for his weekly digital series OMKalen and he was nominated for Best YouTube Comedian at the 2019 Shorty Awards. He has also appeared on Amazon Prime’s With Love and HBO Max’s A Black Lady Sketch Show.

Outfest today unveiled the lineup for its second annual Lgbtqia+ television festival, The OutFronts—a four-day hybrid event with internationally accessible virtual panel discussions and ticketed in-person events in Los Angeles, featuring the talent from some of the most exciting Lgbtqia+ programs available on television today. The festival will run from June 3-6, kicking off with the world premiere in-person screening of Peacock’s Queer As Folk at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, which will be followed by a conversation with the reimagining’s creators and cast.

The festival’s in-person lineup to be held at Neuehouse will give an advanced look at the third and final season premiere of Hulu and Disney+’s Love, Victor, followed by a discussion with the cast and creators, including showrunner Brian Tanen and stars Michael Cimino, Anthony Turpel, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Isabella Ferreira, and Ava Capri moderated by Tommy Dorfman.

Exclusive: It’s a homecoming for April King: William Morris Endeavor announced today that King is returning to the agency to join the talent department.

King comes from ICM, where she secured opportunities in film, scripted and non-scripted television, theatre and podcasts for the agency’s music, comedy and acting clients.

Her clients included Kalen Allen, Luke James, Ne-Yo, Quinta Brunson, Tiffany Boone and Thuso Mbedu. James and Mbedu are joining King at WME as well as Irene Escolar, Alexis Floyd and Letoya Luckett.

Per Discovery, Discovery+ has “the largest-ever content offering of any new streaming service” at launch, including more than 50 original titles and over 150 hours of exclusive content,” like the preview of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network.
