Tim Blake Nelson at an event for Leaves of Grass (2009)
The Leader: Jim Parsons joins Heaven’s Gate cult biopic
Tim Blake Nelson at an event for Leaves of Grass (2009)
Two years ago, we heard that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) would be starring in The Leader, a true crime biopic about a story that shocked the world back in 1997, the mass suicide of the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult. That project has finally made it into production, and Deadline reports that Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) has joined the cast. Details on the character he’ll be playing haven’t been revealed – but it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a member of the Heaven’s Gate cult.

Farmiga is playing cult leader Bonnie Nettles, a.k.a. Ti. Nelson’s character is the cult’s infamous frontman, Marshall Applewhite, a.k.a. Do. Also in the cast are Simon Rex (Red Rocket), Grace Caroline Currey (Fall), Matthew Glave (The Wedding Singer), William Mapother (In the Bedroom), Jb Yowell (A Jar Full of Christmas...

‘Classified’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Aaron Eckhart, Tim Roth, Marysia S. Peres, Abigail Breslin, Kim DeLonghi | Written by Bob DeRosa | Directed by Roel Reiné

Classified is a title with a double meaning. It not only refers to the work C.I.A. assassin Evan does, but it’s how he gets the details of his assignments. His handler, Kevin disguises them as ads in the classified section of the local paper.

As the film begins we see just how the process works as he gets his assignment, gets his hotel room, gets, his weapons, hallucinates about his dead wife Monica, and takes out his target. He’s about to do it all again, this time in Rome, when he gets an unexpected visitor.

Kacey who claims to work for M16 as an analyst and has some important information for him. She claims Kevin is dead, and the division of the C.I.A. he worked for...

Classified Review: Aaron Eckhart & Abigail Breslin Have Zero Chemistry In Spectacularly Flat Thriller
Image
Classified stars Aaron Eckhart as the lone wolf spy Evan Shaw, whom we learn virtually nothing about throughout the hour and 45-minute runtime of this disappointing new thriller. He's joined by former child star Abigail Breslin, who plays his long-lost daughter turned MI6 analyst, Kacey. Written by Roel Rein and directed by Bob DeRosa, Classified will not be remembered as one of the best spy movies of the 2020s and will likely fly under the radar for most audiences. Though competently shot, the storytelling and performances leave much to be desired.

The film's conceit revolves around Evan's discovery that he hasn't been assassinating people for the CIA, as he believed, but an independent company using him for monetary gain. This is made even worse because...

Aaron Eckhart & Abigail Breslin in Action Thriller 'Classified' Trailer
Image
"Finish the mission... or you become the mission!" Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for the action thriller film titled Classified, another of these dime-a-dozen junk action films tossed on VOD. Never heard of it before and probably won't ever hear of it again. The storyline revolves around a veteran CIA agent and his daughter, who herself is an MI6 analyst. His daughter tracks him down and tells him his boss has been dead for years. He has been solely using the classified section of various newspapers to receive his orders - only to discover that his division's actually been shut down for a long time. They set out to find out who has actually been giving him his instructions and sending him on missions. Aaron Eckhart stars with Abigail Breslin, plus Tim Roth, Matt Hookings, Myles Clohessy, Kim DeLonghi, and Joe Azzopardi. This looks like another made-on-Malta tax write off.

Image
"Don't let the monster win." "No, never again." This is now set to open in January, another boring early-in-the-year dumping grounds release to ignore. Set in Ireland, a renowned private investigator and his partner are drawn into a web of intrigue when they start tracking a serial killer targeting a wealthy family with a dark secret. The Pi is forced into a dangerous alliance with the killer in order to uncover a quiet town's grisly criminal underbelly and clear the name of her mentor, who is implicated in the crimes. Exclusive: It's Gator vs. Hillbilly in New Clip from The Flood
Image
Is there anything more entertaining than when a man wrestles with an alligator? The answer, of course, is no. And thankfully, we have an exclusive clip of just such a battle, as man named Big Jimbo fights an alligator in a new clip for the new action horror flick, The Flood. Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and Saban Films, and led by Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien, The Flood finds a group of people at the mercy of many a giant, CGI alligator after a hurricane. Check out our exclusive clip from The Flood above.

“After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators,” the official synopsis for The Flood reads. “When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers. ‘The Flood’ Review
Image
Stars: Devanny Pinn, John Garrett Mahlmeister, Eoin O’Brien, Mike Ferguson, Randall J. Bacon, Bear Williams, Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, Kim DeLonghi, Louis Mandylor | Written by Chad Law, Josh Ridgway | Directed by Brandon Slagle

The Flood opens with Sommer and Clarence taking refuge from Hurricane Clarence in an empty building. That might protect them from the rain, but as they find out, the weather isn’t the worst thing about the storm.

The storm also causes a bus transferring a group of dangerous criminals, Big Jim, Floyd, Jox, Angelo and Russel Cody to take refuge for the night in a decrepit small town jail run by Sheriff Jo Newman.

Now if the first paragraph sounds a bit like Crawl and the second one makes you think of the opening of Assault on Precinct 13 you’re not the only one. And I’m sure writers Chad Law and Josh Ridgway were...

A Horde of Giant Hungry Alligators in Action Horror 'The Flood' Trailer
Image
"We're all going to get eaten alive!" Yes, yes they probably will. Saban Films has revealed the trailer for an action horror movie called The Flood, another of these junky direct-to-video B-movie horror flicks that seem to be popping up all the time now. It's from the same bad filmmaker who also made Battle For Saipan, also with Casper Van Dien, who is back again for this one. A horde of giant hungry alligators is unleashed on a group of in-transit prisoners and their guards after a massive hurricane floods Louisiana. Yes, this is the alligators-in-a-prison movie, if anyone wants to watch. Starring Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, Louis Mandylor, Devanny Pinn, Ryan Francis, Randy Wayne, and Kim DeLonghi. This does not seem worth anyone's time or money - steer clear of this one, folks. There are plenty of other better giant alligator / croc movies to watch instead: Sewer Gators,...

Maneater is the twelfth feature film from writer/director Justin Lee since he came on the scene in 2018 with Big Legend. And it comes at an opportune time since it’s been a couple of months since we’ve reviewed an old-fashioned shark attack film. Shark Side of the Moon and Sharkula don’t count for obvious reasons.

Jessie got dumped just before her wedding. But since the honeymoon was already paid for, her friend Sunny convinced her to turn it into a vacation. So, along with Will, Brianna and the rest of the crew they set sail with Captain Wally and Beth.

As this is happening, Harlan is running around town demanding the police do something about the shark that killed his daughter. He also...

Antonio Banderas at an event for The Skin I Live In (2011)
"Do you have a plan?" Doesn't sound like they do. Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for a film titled Code Name Banshee, which is yet another hitman thriller about two assassins going after each other. There have been so many of these films recently, and none of them are memorable or interesting. Caleb is a former government assassin in hiding who resurfaces when his protégé, the equally deadly killer known as Banshee, discovers a bounty has been placed on Caleb's head. Now Caleb and Banshee must put the past behind them and join together one last time Such an original concept, right? From the same team that made the film The Survivalist that no one saw. Most impressive is the cast: Antonio Banderas and Jaime King as Caleb and Banshee, plus Tommy Flanagan, Kim DeLonghi, Catherine Davis, Keil Oakley Zepernick, Aleksander Vayshelboym, and John Wollman. ‘Castle Falls’ Review
Image
Stars: Scott Adkins, Dolph Lundgren, Ida Lundgren, Scott Hunter, Kim DeLonghi, Jim E. Chandler, Dave Halls, | Written by Andrew Knauer | Directed by Dolph Lundgren

Castle Falls marks Dolph Lundgren’s first film as a director since he shot Icarus in 2010. It’s also his fifth teaming with co-star Scott Adkins. Toss in a plot that sounds slightly reminiscent of Walter Hill’s underrated 1992 film Trespass and you have a film with a lot of potential. The question is, can it live up to them?

Mike Wade is down on his luck. His career as a fighter is over, he can’t even make the cut for a local Mma event and he’s been evicted from his apartment. Now he’s living in his truck and working as a labourer on the demolition of Castle Heights Hospital. And then his luck turns around, he finds several bags full of money hidden in the abandoned building.

Heather Graham, Thomas Jane, Colson Baker, and Sam Worthington in The Last Son (2021)
Western 'The Last Son' Trailer with Sam Worthington & Thomas Jane
Heather Graham, Thomas Jane, Colson Baker, and Sam Worthington in The Last Son (2021)
"You'd be surprised what people can do..." Redbox has unveiled an official trailer for the indie film The Last Son, a western thriller from filmmaker Tim Sutton who is known for his low key indie films previously - Memphis, Dark Knight, Donnybrook, Funny Face. In this one, an outlaw attempts to end his evil family line. Sam Worthington stars as Isaac LeMay, a murderous outlaw cursed by a terrible prophecy, hunting down his offspring to prevent his own death before targeting his son. Shot entirely on location in Montana, "The Last Son truly portrays the brutality that was the West in the 19th century." The cast includes Thomas Jane, Colson Baker (aka "Machine Gun Kelly"), Heather Graham, Kim DeLonghi, Scotty Bohnen, Danny Bohnen, and James Landry Hébert. It actually looks a bit better than expected, more cinematic than Sutton's last features. A violent western with a grizzled Worthington ready to take on everyone alone.

"Follow the guard, find the money." Shout Factory has released a trailer for Castle Falls, an action thriller directed by Swedish action star Dolph Lundgren. This is dropping on VOD in December just in time for the holidays!
