Apple TV+ has finally released the trailer for “Severance” Season 2, and we are so in(nie).

In “Severance,” Adam Scott’s Mark Scout (“Mark S.” at work) leads a team at Lumon Industries, where employees have undergone an elective — but controversial — surgery that divides their memories between their work and personal lives. Basically, the Work You (your “Innie”) never exists outside of the office, and your home half (“Outtie”) never knows work. It’s kind of cool for the latter but an absolute torturous existence for the former. The series itself is top notch.

Toward the end of Season 1, Mark and his three close colleagues make some monumental discoveries about what may really being going on inside Lumon HQ. In a wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair, series creator and executive producer Dan Erickson gives us our first hints of what to expect from the new season of Apple TV+’s sci-fi thriller. “Things get darker,” he teases ominously. “We very much wanted to put our heroes in a scarier place because Season 1 ends with them poking the bear.” But “what happens when the bear pokes back?” In Season 2, we’ll learn that “the fallout is dire.”

Nearly two years after the show debuted, the wait for Severance‘s return is nearly over.

With Season 2 of the 7x Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ sci-fi series premiering Jan. 17, creator Dan Erickson and EP/director Ben Stiller explained that the Hollywood strikes were only partially to blame for the delays.

“It took a while to write season two,” Stiller recently told Vanity Fair. “Then we started to shoot in October of 2022, and we got shut down by the strike in May [2023]. At that point, we had completed about 7 of our 10 episodes, and then we had to regroup after the strike. It takes us a while to prep the show. And so, we didn’t start shooting until January [2024]. Then we shot from January to May to finish the last three episodes.”

Ben Stiller knows that “Severance” Season 2 has taken much longer than fans hoped. Turns out, production began way back in 2022, but the world of Innies and Outies was put on pause due to a series of external factors.

Stiller, who directs five episodes of the second season and serves as an executive producer, told Vanity Fair that a majority of the season was completed before the strikes in 2023. Now, “Severance” Season 2 premieres January 17, 2025.

In 2022's The Batman, John Turturro played mob boss Carmine Falcone. The Penguin, an excellent new spinoff series airing on HBO, follows Carmine's enforcer Oz and his daughter Sofia; Carmine himself featured in a flashback-heavy episode the other week, but this time he was played by Mark Strong. Turturro opted not to return for the role, and now we know why.

Part of it was that old chestnut: scheduling issues. “You can’t do everything you want to,” Turturro told Variety. That's the reason The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc gave when she was asked about Turturro's absence before the show had premiered. Today, Apple TV+ debuted the teaser for the second season of its Emmy and Peabody Award-winning globally celebrated workplace thriller Severance, sharing a glimpse into the mysteries ahead at Lumon Industries.

Directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller and created, written, and executive produced by Dan Erickson, the 10-episode second season of Severance will debut globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 17, 2025, followed by one episode every Friday through March 21.

In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. In the trailer, Adam Scott’s Mark S. returns to the office after exposing his “innie” to the outside world and learning that his wife (who he thought died in a car accident) is actually alive, and working at Lumon as the wellness counselor Ms. Casey.

After frantically dashing down those stark-white hallways, Mark enters his workspace to find three unfamiliar Lumon employees — sitting in the desks formerly occupied by Helly (Britt Lower), Irving (John Turturro) and Dylan (Zach Cherry). His delightfully creepy manager Milchick (Tramell Tillman) welcomes him back to the office with balloons adorned with Mark’s face.

“Severance” Season 2 finally has teased more of what’s to come for the enslaved Lumon employees, led by Mark (Adam Scott). Along with Mark, coworkers Dylan (Zach Cherry), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) are all “learning the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,” according to the official synopsis.

Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, and Christopher Walken all also return, with Sarah Bock promoted to series regular.

Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, and more stars are joining the cast for Season 2, as announced in April 2022.

Arquette previously warned that audiences should be “very scared” of the Season 2 story arc, but it still remains mostly under wraps even after a first look debuted earlier this year.

On Wednesday, Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for Season 2 of the Emmy-winning drama, which returns on Friday, Jan. 17, nearly three years after it premiered in February 2022. The trailer sees Mark (Adam Scott) frantically running through Lumon’s pristine white hallways intercut with quick snippets of Season 2 scenes. He eventually arrives at his old workspace, where a new group of people, including one played by Alia Shawkat, have replaced Helly (Britt Lower), Irving (John Turturro), and Dylan (Zach Cherry).

Apple TV+ unveiled a trailer for Severance season two on Wednesday, teasing Mark Scout’s (Adam Scott) race to uncover the truth about Lumon Industries.

Severance will premiere its 10-episode second season on the streamer on Jan. 17, 2025, followed by one episode every Friday through March 21.

In the trailer, Mark races up and down the barren hallways of the workplace thriller’s dystopian offices, as the rushed voices of season one’s epic finale play overhead. The return will mark two and a half years since the show first premiered in February 2022.

“In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,” a press release reads.

In addition to Scott, the show also stars Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette.

Back in July, Apple TV+ unveiled a teaser trailer for season 2 of their psychological thriller series Severance, which is set to drop its first episode on Friday, January 17, 2025. Following a dizzying Severance Season One finale, Apple TV+ released a Season Two teaser Wednesday for the workplace thriller. It begins with severed employee Mark, played by Adam Scott, stepping out of an elevator and sprinting aimlessly through the white, narrow hallways of Lumon Industries. Mark reaches a screeching halt, when he discovers his microdata refinement coworkers have been replaced by a new cohort of severed employees. Mr. Milchick, the floor supervisor played be Tramell Tillman, then enters with a handful of balloons.

It’s been over two years since the first season of Severance wrapped up, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the new season. We’re still a few months out from the premiere, but Severance creator Dan Erickson has already mapped out the future of the series, including a possible season 3.

While speaking with IndieWire, Severance writer and co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri teased the future of the series. “There was always a thinking ahead to future seasons,” El Masri said. “Even in Season 2, we were talking about, what is the end game and how does this show end? A lot of work was talking about that. I think there’s a natural overlap that happens, especially with the second season of a show, that you’ve got to keep [the momentum] going. People are interested, people are watching, and now with Season 2, you really have to sort of think about, not...

“Severance” is likely already looking to Season 3 and beyond, even before its highly-anticipated second season has debuted. The critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series premiered in 2022, and picked up 14 Emmy nominations and two wins. It was renewed for a second season mere days before its Season 1 finale aired. While Season 2 is set for a January 17, 2025 release, a third season has not officially been greenlit.

However, series writer and Season 2 co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri recently told IndieWire while promoting his acclaimed Youtube short film “Other Other“ that series creator Dan Erickson and executive producer and director Ben Stiller have already “mapped out” the full arc of the sci-fi workplace drama.
