Following a killer performance during the Olympics closing ceremony, Phoenix have jumped on a new remix of Kavinsky’s track “Nightcall” with Belgian vocalist Angèle. Stream it below.
Originally written by Kavinsky and Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, “Nightcall” was first released in 2010 and featured in the title sequence for the Ryan Gosling film Drive. During the closing ceremony in Paris, Phoenix debuted the reimagined version with Belgian star Angèle, which they’ve now officially recorded and released to streaming.
Capitalizing on the intensity and moodiness of the original song, Phoenix member Thomas Mars’ vocals interweave with those of Angèle in and out of the chorus to haunting effect. The pacing is also slightly quicker than the 2010 track, but the remix retains the ’80s flourishes of synths and vocoders.

Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars, who performed at Sunday’s concert at the Stade de France for the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, said that he worried for athletes’ safety during the show.
French indie rock band Phoenix delivered a rousing rendition of their hit “Lisztomania” surrounded by hundreds of athletes.
While Mars is accustomed to live performances, the Olympics’ closing ceremony was a different kind of gig, he told French radio France Inter on Monday morning, due to the overjoyed crowd of athletes who were out of control during the musical act.
“We were told that generally at closing ceremonies, the athletes are very happy with the pressure from the Olympics coming down so they let loose,” said Mars. “But there, they got up on screens, they broke the screens,” he said. “In fact, we were afraid for them because we had been told for the last two weeks of rehearsal ‘Above all,...

The Paris Olympics closing ceremony was full of surprises Sunday and featured performances by Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, H.E.R and Phoenix.
Phoenix, originally from France but now based in the U.S., kicked off the show with their 2009 hit “Lisztomania,” as athletes danced and sang along to the indie classic. Their set featured surprise appearances from French synthwave artist Kavinsky and Belgian singer Angèle for a rendition of “Nightcall,” known from the Drive soundtrack (the original version featured Css singer Lovefoxxx instead of Angèle).
Rapper VannDa joined in for “Funky Squaredance” and fellow French indie icons Air performed their song “Playground Love” with Phoenix. Another surprise was Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, who performed “Tonight,” his collaborative track with the band. The set ended on a sweet note with frontman Thomas Mars jumping off the stage to mingle with the Olympians in the crowd.

Au revoir Paris, Hola LA.
In a nutshell, that was the just completed ceremony of the Games of the Xxxiii Olympiad.
It was Tom Cruise leaping off the rim of the Stade de France to take the Olympic flag from LA Mayor Karen Bass and Simone Biles. As the guitar riffs of H.E.R. filled the air, Cruise then exited on a motorbike to deliver the flag to a sunny West Coast. It was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Olympic fixture Snoop Dogg getting into the pre-recorded groove down in Long Beach.
It wasn’t telling of the full scope of Los Angeles and no mention was made of Snoop’s supposed flight from Paris to LA, but it was pure Hollywood.
It was over the top and cliche filled – – as if anything less would have sufficed.
Amazing !!!
LA28 à vous les Jeux Olympiques. Enjoy!
Amazing!!!@LA28, your turn.

The 2024 Paris Olympics have come to an end, with the closing ceremony going down Sunday at Stade de France. To help say “Au revoir” in true French style, local artists — including Phoenix, Air, and more — performed.
Phoenix performed their hit “Lisztomania” to usher in the party portion of the ceremony. Set up on a small stage in the center of the stadium, and surrounded by a crowd of Olympic athletes, the band delivered an upbeat rendition of the 2009 classic, to a warm response from the crowd. Then, they helped the DJ Kavinsky and vocalist Angèle perform “Nightcall,” before diving into their 2000 track “If I Ever Feel Better.”
From there, they welcomed a number of guests, including Air — who performed their 2000 song “Playground Love” — and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, who sang “Tonight” with the group. Then, Phoenix closed their portion of the ceremony with another hit: “1901.” Watch videos of the performances below.

DJ Kavinsky and Belgian singer Angèle joined the band for “Nightcall,” which was followed up by “If I Ever Feel Better” and a duet with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.
“They’re unbelievable, great band, always bringing the energy,” host Jimmy Fallon said as he commentated during the band’s performance.

The Paris Olympics set a high bar for itself after an opening ceremony that showcased Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and a scenic backdrop involving virtually every Parisian landmark along the Seine. But the closing ceremony — taking place on a blistering hot day in stark contrast to the pouring rain of its kickoff — also delivered a blockbuster show with a Hollywood twist.
As part of the glitzy handover to Los Angeles as it prepares to host 2028’s Summer Games, Tom Cruise wowed audiences with a few epic stunts while Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed and H.E.R. sang the U.S. national anthem. Swimmer Katie Ledecky and rower Nick Mead — who both secured gold medals at the 2024 Games — were the flag bearers for the U.S., whose team topped the Paris Olympics with a whopping 126 medals, beating China, the U.K. and France. The host country broke a 100-year record with 64 medals,...

The process of dealing with grief, especially with the loss of someone dear, is different for each individual, but sharing the emotional burden with the people who empathize surely helps people to move on, irrespective of how they cope with their loss. This realization takes on a new dimension when themes of matriarchy, femininity, and family ties are intricately woven into the narrative, and that is what Guy Édoin’s Frontiers is all about. However, this basic premise doesn’t tell the entire story, as there is much the movie wants to convey through the four female leads within a short runtime. Some of the intended messages lands, especially due to how good the chemistry between the characters turns out to be, which properly relays the undercurrent of pathos and desperation to the viewers. But confusion (not the good kind) and boredom massively sap at the interest through the course...

Angèle knows you might not know her songs — or understand them — and she’s Ok with that. This weekend, the Belgian pop star is performing a string of shows at New York City’s Terminal 5, wrapping her productive and eye-opening first-ever tour of the U.S.
Back home, she’s used to filling arenas with fans who want to hear her French-language pop hits. To put her level of stardom into perspective, she recently sold a total of 70,000 tickets across two shows in Paris. (That’s the equivalent of 3.5 Madison Square Gardens.

The excitement around Coachella often revolves around gigantic stars pulling out all the stops during major performances, and this year was no exception. Headliners Bad Bunny and Blackpink both made history — Bad Bunny as the first Latino artist and Blackpink as the first female K-pop band to hit the mainstage during the festival’s most coveted time slots. Frank Ocean’s set, meanwhile, built up plenty of anticipation and drama, especially after his chaotic show the first weekend and once news hit that he was dropping out of the second weekend.
