Jeff Van Gerwen was born in London, Ontario. In 2016, Van Gerwen moved to New Orleans, Louisiana.

In June of 2018, Van Gerwen made his debut as the writer-director-producer of the independent short film "It's Quiet Here." The film was awarded the Gold Award for Best Drama at the L.A. Shorts awards.
