Aldemaro Romero Jr.

Aldemaro Romero Jr. is a public intellectual, scholar, and higher education administrator. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biology (Universitat de Barcelona) and a Ph.D. in Biology (University of Miami). He has published nearly 1,100 pieces, including more than 30 books, monographs, and hundreds of articles. His academic interests range from environmental and evolutionary biology to marine and cave biology to history and philosophy of science and science communication. He has also been involved in mass communication and art productions and awarded numerous grants and prizes for his research, teaching, and science communication work.
His experience in academia includes, but is not limited to, Director and Associate Professor of the Environmental Studies Program at Macalester College, MN (1998-2003), Chair and Professor of the Department of Biological Sciences at Arkansas State University (2003-2009), Dean and Professor of the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (2009-2014) and Professor (2015-2016), and Dean and Professor of the George and Mildred Weissman School of Arts & Sciences at Baruch College - CUNY (2016-2020). He is now a professor at Baruch College.
He has played an active role in fostering the need for promoting the value of a liberal arts and sciences education through the Council of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS), for which he has been the Chair of the Committee on Liberal Arts Institutions and Chair of the Committee on Cultural Diversity. He is also an active participant of the International Council of the Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD), for which he has been the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (2016-2017) and has served as a member of its Board of Directors.
He has developed a great number of outreach programs that include, but are not limited to, the use of traditional media and electronic social ones. He has produced/directed/written/and hosted hundreds of TV and radio shows while writing hundreds of non-academic pieces in the form of regular newspaper columns and journal articles. He is embarked on these initiatives even today. These efforts have been recognized with many accolades in several countries.
As an administrator, he has successfully led efforts in fund-raising, profile enhancement, sustainability programs, and diversification and internationalization of faculty, students, and staff. Because of his creativity and innovative approaches, he has distinguished himself as a transformative leader.
