Above: 1973 New York Film Festival poster designed by Niki de Saint Phalle. The 61st edition of the New York Film Festival, which opens tonight, has 32 films in its Main Slate, fifteen films in its Spotlight section, ten films and seven collections of shorts in the Currents sidebar, and eleven revivals. That's over 60 feature films. Fifty years ago, in 1973, the 11th edition of the festival had just eighteen feature films and nineteen shorts. Just like this year’s opener—Todd Haynes’s May December—1973’s opening night film, François Truffaut’s Day for Night, had premiered four months earlier at the Cannes Film Festival. And as with this year’s festival, the 1973 edition opened, fifty years and one day ago exactly, in the shadow of an artists' strike. Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians had been picketing the New York Philharmonic outside Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, where the festival was taking place,...

Creator Dan Harmon plans to shoot the upcoming Community movie without changing the script during production to avoid inconveniencing returning actors. The movie will feature original cast members such as Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ken Jeong, and Donald Glover. The movie will serve as a class reunion, showing the characters older and in different life positions, providing a definitive bookend for the show.
Community creator Dan Harmon has detailed what he wants to change about the upcoming movie compared to the existing TV series. The sitcom focuses on a community college in a fictional Colorado town, inspired by Harmon's own experiences attending a community college. The series ended in 2015, but there are plans for a movie, which is currently in development.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon detailed that he wants to shoot the upcoming Community movie without having to change the script during production.

Yvette Nicole Brown responds on Twitter to Chevy Chase's recent negative remarks about Community by saying "He seems nice". In a reply to a fan, Brown affirms that she probably will never talk about her experiences with Chase behind-the-scenes. During a recent podcast appearance, Chase said that the show "wasn't funny enough for me" and that he "didn't want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people." Chase's time on the series was fraught with controversy, with the actor not wanting to be present on set, refusing to film certain scenes, clashing with creator Dan Harmon, and even using a racial slur.
Community star Yvette Nicole Brown responds after her former costar, Chevy Chase, slammed the series. First airing in 2009, Dan Harmon's sitcom chronicled the daily adventures of a group of misfits at Greendale Community College. Jeff Winger is the among the older members of the Community group, lying about his age and turning 40 during the show's run. Annie Edison is the youngest member, starting at Greendale right after high school graduation and ending the series at age 24. Pierce Hawthorne, played by Chevy Chase, had the highest age in the group, starting at Greendale at age 54 and graduating at age 68.
Given the mismatched ensemble of colorful characters in the series, the Community character ages range drastically. From the fresh out of high school Troy and Annie to Pierce being decades older than everyone else, this group was totally different from each other. Although most of the characters never get their age mentioned specifically, certain storylines and minor details are revealed throughout the show's run to help determine the ages of Community's core cast of college friends.

"If I can't have them, no one can" is the motto of yandere archetype characters. The yandere is a dere type that combines "yanderu," meaning sick, and "dere," meaning lovey-dovey. Together, it creates someone so lovesick that they're willing to do absolutely anything to end up with the one they love.
Yandere anime characters are fixated on their love interest. On the outside, they act as if they're kind and sweet characters to everyone, but on the inside, they're willing to go as far as murder if someone gets in their way. Often, yandere characters become fan favorites even though they're incredibly scary.

Despite doing well in its first season, Prime Video has sadly reversed its renewal of The Peripheral.
The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.
The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.
What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.
Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.
With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.
There are still...

It's been almost five years since Bradley Cooper made waves with his directorial debut, the 2018 remake of "A Star is Born," a film he also starred in as the troubled singer/songwriter Jackson Maine. Not too many actors-turned-directors immediately carve a path to the Oscars as triumphantly as Cooper did that year, alongside co-star Lady Gaga, and bolstered by some of the catchiest songs that some of us still have on a regular rotation on Spotify (guilty as charged). Fans have been waiting ever since to see what Cooper's next directorial feature film might be -- somehow squeezed into his increasingly busy schedule as an actor, of course.
That project turned out to be a biographical drama centered on musical legend Leonard Bernstein, titled "Maestro," and it sure looks like it'll be worth the wait. After audiences had their minds blown earlier this year by our first look at the...

Typically, TV shows stick to one core setting, but some series change location after a while, altering the focus of their stories and characters. Especially for sitcoms filmed in front of a live audience, one primary location makes sense in order to keep sets to a minimum. Still, any show can begin to feel stale in its stationary setting and need a change of scenery. While too much of a difference can risk the series "jumping the shark," there are also shows where the change of central location — from a high school to a college, for instance — hardly comes off as a change at all.
Whether it's because of characters changing jobs or upgrading homes or finally getting off the mysterious island they've crashed onto, TV shows move to new locations for various reasons. Occasionally they even move back. The relocation isn't really a big deal so much as what...

"The Haunting of Hill House" is one of the best horror shows ever made, and one of the best TV shows of the past decade, regardless of genre. Mike Flanagan's first TV series is more than an adaptation — it is an homage and a love letter to Shirley Jackson's novel that it is loosely based on. It follows the Crain siblings across two timelines: how they as kids survived living in a haunted house of horrors, and how they as adults reckon with past traumas and tragic deaths.
The show is a beautiful exploration of grief, a ghost story that is both a tear-jerker but also very spooky. Flanagan weaves together emotions like he's a tailor, with a deeply unsettling sense of horror that is not about jump scares or intense gore. Instead, it's more of a slow meditation on grief covered in layers upon layers of dread and uneasiness.

It's been nearly a decade since "Community" wrapped up its six-season run, and the cult favorite comedy still offers a rewarding rewatch. While some parts of the Dan Harmon-made series have aged poorly, others are even funnier with time, thanks to a cast full of rising stars and industry veterans. Not all of the show's best jokes came straight from the mouths of Donald Glover or Danny Pudi, though; several of the best parts of "Community" actually take place in the background.
While most network sitcoms barely utilize the space within the camera's frame, "Community" makes good use of every inch of it, with jokes unfolding in the background as well as the foreground. In one episode, Abed (Pudi) helps deliver a baby in the Greendale parking lot while the rest of the study group is busy trying to help Pierce (Chevy Chase) process his mom's death. The subplot...

Mumbai, March 29 (Ians) Singer-actress Shirley Setia recently released her new track titled ‘Kaho Na’. This is the first time that she has composed a song and penned the lyrics for the same.
Talking about the track, the singer told Ians: “This song is quite special to me because I have composed it for the first time and the lyrics have been written by me completely. It’s very simply written like how a GenZ relationship has its own special charm and the kind of feelings they would feel, I captured those and put that up through my song.”
Commenting on the different textures and sound elements used in the song, Shirley, who started her journey with YouTube, further mentioned: “The song is a mixture of acoustic pop with afro pop with ambient synth elements, making it more soothing to the ears but expressive to the listeners.”
