Netflix recently revealed our first official look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia with a brief teaser promo for season 4 of The Witcher, but some new set photos give us arguably our best look yet at the actor fully suited-up as the titular monster hunter.

The shoot is believed to be winding down, with scenes for the final two episodes being filmed in North Wales around Llanberis, near Padarn Lake.

Brendan Quinn, whose role in Netflix’s “One Day” landed him a best supporting nod at the National Film Awards UK, has joined the ensemble cast of “Scene House,” a dark comedy penned and directed by Annabella Fazio.

Quinn stars alongside Netflix alum Safiyya Ingar (“The Witcher”), Nell Williams (“Blinded by the Light”), Denzel Baidoo (“Last Swim”), Selina Jones (“Raised by Wolves”), Aaron Teoh (“Wicked”) and Ivy Freeman-Attwood (“Two Neighbors”).

Looking at societal obsession with celebrity culture, the short film is set in a dystopian future where actors inhabit an enclosed area called The Scene House – an unsettling hybrid of a theme park and museum. After Henry Cavill exited “The Witcher,” a first look at Season 4 of the Netflix series teases new star Liam Hemsworth as the recast character. A Google search lists Cavill at 6’1″ and Hemsworth as 6’3″ — if you can believe those things.

After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again.

The streaming service previously gave the green light to Season 5 of The Witcher, which will film back-to-back with Season 4 and will be the final chapter in Geralt’s story.

Seasons 4 and 5 will adapt the remaining Sapkowski books, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake, promising an epic and satisfying conclusion to Netflix’s hit fantasy drama.

The UK’s Independent Entertainment has sold Amrou Al-Kadhi’s Sundance premiere Layla to Curzon for the UK-Ireland, with a theatrical release plotted for later this year.

Al-Kadhi’s directorial debut stars Bilal Hasna, Louis Greatorex, Safiyya Ingar, Terique Jarrett, Darkwah and Sarah Agha, with supporting roles from Rebecca Lucy Taylor aka musician Self Esteem and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant, Baby.

Major Series Adaptation Renewals at Netflix, Prime Video

There's more to come for two of TV's biggest series adaptations!

Late last week, Prime Video announced a Season 2 renewal for its recent hit adaptation of "Fallout," starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins. Based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, "Fallout" is set 200 years after the apocalypse, when "the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind...and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them."

The first season of "Fallout" premiered exclusively on Prime Video on April 10, and within its first few days post-launch, the series became one of the streamer's top three most-watched titles.

Geralt of Rivia’s story has an end date on Netflix.

On Thursday, the streaming service renewed The Witcher for Season 5, but revealed that it would be the last season.

The shocking announcement comes as production is finally getting underway on The Witcher Season 4 following countless setbacks.

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

Saying goodbye to the hit fantasy drama will be tough, but at least we have two seasons that will help soften the blow.

The 40th edition of Sundance Film Festival kicks off today, and notably, queer and Himalaya-themed films take over the Asian/Asian diaspora slate of the mountain festival. In previous years, Sundance has been a frontier for Asian diaspora films. Last year alone saw a full slate of Asian diaspora films, with “Past Lives” (Celine Song), “Shortcomings” (Randall Park), “The Persian Version” (Maryam Keshavarz), and more, among others – there are considerably less Asian American films in the primary competition. This year, in the US Dramatic Competition, only one film, “Didi (弟弟)” by Sean Wang stands out amid the crowd.

Drag queens are a huge part of contemporary pop culture. They are on TV, on social media and forever on the minds of conservative politicians who try to ostracize them and muffle their voices. Yet despite this ubiquity, they rarely appear as movie leads. Writer-director Amrou Al-Kadhi rectifies that with their debut feature “Layla,” unspooling in the World Dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Like most Sundance discoveries, it introduces a new voice trying to carve a space for themselves in the medium. And like most feature debuts, it shows how that voice needs to be honed and nurtured, so that their next feature might more successfully accomplish its goals.

Layla (Bilal Hasna) is a London drag queen living a double life. With their friends, they live their truth as a nonbinary person and drag performer. Yet when they visit their Palestinian family, they become Latif, the dutiful son.

Whichever way "The Witcher" (say that three times fast!) elects to send off Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, Netflix's marketing team is certainly pulling out all the stops. The streamer has released a second and final trailer for season 3 volume 2 just a few days ahead of its arrival, complete with all the trimmings "Witcher" fans could ask for. There's even a line or two of dialogue that all but explicitly nods to Cavill's impending departure from the show. It's almost enough to give you a lump in your throat, in-between the clips of our treasured grouchy monster hunter dad going all stabbity-stabbity on his enemies.

Everything comes to a head in season 3 of “The Witcher”.

Netflix released the second action-packed trailer for the new season today, which sees Henry Cavill’s Geralt taking on the world as they pursue his adopted daughter.

“The war brewing outside is nothing compared to what Geralt will unleash to protect his daughter,” warns Joey Batey’s Jaskier.

The show picks up where season 2 left off with the unexpected found family of Geralt, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, and Freya Allen’s Ciri preparing to take on the forces coming for Ciri.

The new trailer for season three of Netflix’s The Witcher is giving off heavy “you’re going to miss him when he’s gone” vibes. “The Witcher” Season 3 will arrive in Summer 2023, with Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), and Freya Allan (Princess Cirilla of Cintra) all returning for the next chapter in the epic monster-slaying saga. We’ve learned today that Season 3: Volume 1 will premiere June 29, followed by Volume 2 on July 27.

Volume 1 of “The Witcher” Season 3 will include episodes 1-5 and will be released globally on June 29 and Volume 2 will include episodes 6-8, released July 27.

Netflix is ready to throw one last coin to Henry Cavill, announcing that the actor’s third and final season as The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia will be released in two parts this summer.

The swords-and-sorcery drama will return for Volume 1 of Season 3 (aka Episodes 1–5) on Thursday, June 29, while Volume 2 (Episodes 6–8) will be held until Thursday, July 27.

Layla, the debut feature of 2018 Screen Star of Tomorrow Amrou Al-Kadhi, about the romance between a struggling British-Palestinian drag performer and a successful white gay man, wraps this week after a six-week shoot in east London.

The film is backed by Film4 and the BFI and is produced by UK producer Savannah James-Bayly of Fox Cub Films.
