Kristen Stewart makes her recorded music debut with “Who Laughs Last?” a new collaboration with the L.A.-based band, Lord Huron.
Stewart drives the song with a spoken-word monologue delivered across several verses, her noir-ish tale of a long, searching, late-night drive floating over a propulsive groove. Lord Huron have returned with their first new music since 2023: “Who Laughs Last?” a new song featuring Kristen Stewart. Additionally, the band has announced new 2025 tour dates.
Marking Stewart’s very first contribution to a musical recording, “Who Laughs Last?” opens with a dark, driving indie rock beat, followed by spoken-word lines delivered by the Twilight actor herself, building tension for the first two minutes of the song. Then, the arrangement erupts as frontman Ben Schneider enters on the chorus, singing about leaving a city far behind and wrestling with a “burning feeling deep inside.”

Earlier this year, The National superfan, David Letterman, said that there is “nobody cooler” than the band’s frontman, Matt Berninger. Now, the two have come together for a 27-minute-long conversation, in which they discuss The National’s latest albums, Berninger’s creative process, shared experiences of depression, and more.

Nation of Language share new single ‘Too Much, Enough’ – the centrepiece of new album Strange Disciple out 15th September via [Pias], named as one of the most anticipated albums of the summer by Pitchfork.
In this new track, the band takes aim at the angering, addictive and anxiety-inducing TV news cycles that have so many viewers hopelessly devoted. ‘Too Much, Enough’ looks outward with an effect that is both immediate and irresistible. The chorus explodes like the revelation of a third eye opening, combining a ricocheting pattern of synths with an uninhibited bassline, leaping vocal melodies and an empathic call-and-response.
Simultaneously surreal and hyper present, ‘Too Much, Enough’ arrives with a music video starring Emmy-nominated actor Jimmi Simpson, fellow musicians Reggie Watts, Kevin Morby, Tomberlin, Moldy Peaches’ Adam Green, and Lvl Up’s Greg Rutkin, plus more than a dozen other close friends, familiar faces and even the hooded Strange Disciple itself.

Nation of Language aren’t the only folks disheartened by a news cycle that intersperses manufactured controversy with genuinely heart-wrenching headlines. Still, their latest single “Too Much, Enough” is a pretty good entry to the canon, urging us to unplug from the doom channels with an understated chorus of bubbling synths.
“‘Too Much, Enough’ is a song born out of an exhaustion with the 24 hour news cycle and the outrage bait it uses to get everyone permanently wound up,” Nation of Language said in a statement. “It seems the only way to find an edge in the media business is to appeal to our most base instincts of disgust, and we end up suffering both individually and collectively for it.”
Rather than lean into this darkness, however, the single’s music video goes for a classic gimmick: celebrities pretending to be news anchors. Directed by Robert Kolodny, the visual sees Reggie Watts,...

Woods have announced their new album Perennial, due September 15th on Woodsist, with the dual debut singles, “Between the Past” and “White Winter Melody.”
Recorded in the same Stinson Beach, California studio that yielded 2020’s Strange to Explain and produced by bandmates Jeremy Earl and Jarvis Taveniere, Perennial was partially inspired by Earl’s realization that “perennial plants and flowers are nature’s loops.” Along with Earl, Taveniere, and long-time members John Andrews and Kyle Forester, the album also features pedal steel work from Connor Gallaher. Pre-orders are ongoing.
Perennial boasts 11 tracks, led by the first two singles “Between the Past” and “White Winter Melody.” The paired release highlights the band’s mix of folk psychedelia and vocals-free constructions, with “White Winter Melody” representing one of the album’s four completely instrumental tracks. Stream both songs below.

Kevin Morby hasn’t completely closed the door on This is a Photograph, the introspective seventh studio album he released last year. On it, he walked a thin line between autobiographical and fictional storytelling while exploring the way childhood memories change with age. Wilco are heading back to Mexico this December for their Sky Blue Sky Festival. They’ve unveiled the full lineup for its 2023 iteration today, which includes Father John Misty, Sylvan Esso, and Lucinda Williams.
Wilco themselves, of course, are also featured on the lineup for Sky Blue Sky 2023, where they’ll play three shows throughout the four-day festival at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. Other notable names on the poster include Waxahatchee, Kevin Morby, Built to Spill, Bartees Strange, and Cate Le Bon, as well as a solo set from Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.
“Sky Blue Sky is something we feel lucky we get to do, and look forward to every time we put one together,” Tweedy writes in a press release. “We love sharing music with our friends, and we love getting together with everyone in the sun. It’s nice to step out from under the clouds every now and then.

“He was only 16 and he was a true legend. Kindest, gentle soul, a friend to all. If you knew him, you know. We’ll never get over him as long as we’re here on earth,” he continued.
The 41-year-old then asked for fans to keep his memory alive by sharing Dorian’s music. The teenager was an aspiring songwriter like his father and was beginning his journey, according to the post.

The latest offering from Kevin Morby’s This Is a Photograph is the beautiful music video for “Bittersweet, Tn,” the singer’s solemn duet with Tennessee singer-songwriter Erin Rae. Filmed outside of Nashville, the video finds Rae and Morby separately wandering a variety of landscapes.
Watching the bucolic video, there would be no way to know that the video had been interrupted by a nearby shooting scare.
“I generally don’t like making music videos, but I was really enjoying this one,” Morby tells Rolling Stone. “Suddenly, though, a helicopter started circling over us…...

End Of The Road is a festival that keeps its promises. The cultured leftfield shindig – where croquet tournaments break out in forest glades and peacocks roam the trimmed lawns of Dorset’s Larmer Tree Gardens, unbothered by the experimental folk, rock, rap and electronic tomfoolery floating across the site – has been promising a weekend headlined by indie giants Pixies and Bright Eyes since 2020. Covid scuppered that event, and post-pandemic travel issues forced the 2021 bill to become more UK-based. But this year, Eotr puts its music where its mouth is at last, with plenty more curveballs thrown in to keep this crowd of discerning alternative music fans pleasingly off-balance.
The opening Thursday night bill is a brain-rattling case in point. On the main Woods Stage, LA’s Sudan Archives sets out to invent jig-hop, interspersing psychosexual ambient raps with ruined snippets of Irish folk played on the fiddle she brandishes throughout.

Rhett Miller finds himself pleasantly surprised by his contentment in “Follow You Home,” the first offering from the Old 97’s frontman’s first solo album in four years. Titled The Misfit, the project will be released via Ato Records on Sept. 16.
With shades of Fleetwood Mac and dream-pop, the buoyant “Follow You Home” is anchored by its upbeat rhythm and sunny splashes of electric guitar. “Tried living in the moment, but I was living in a dream,” Miller sings, lamenting the random, unpredictable nature of existence. In the end, he...

Kevin Morby offered audiences a taste of his latest album with a high-octane performance of “This Is a Photograph” on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Backed by a full band and a trio of backup singers, Morby emphasizes the track’s slow-burning dynamics, skillfully layering different sonic elements — a jaunty guitar riff, the gentle shake of a maraca, an unobtrusive bass line — until the performance explodes into a frenetic, urgent crescendo. “This is what I’ll miss after I die,” he exclaims during a chant-like refrain. “And this...

There’s something strange about Memphis. Nestled along the muddy waters of the Mississippi River, the city lies shrouded in an aura of perpetual gloom, its skyline dominated by a mammoth, metal-clad pyramid filled not with treasures, but a Bass Pro Shop superstore. Unable to escape its murky past — yellow fever, massacres and assassinations, untimely demises — the city remains burdened by the stench of death lingering in the hot, humid air.
It’s not the happiest place on earth, but it does make an ideal locale to ruminate on mortality.

Kevin Morby tackles his inner demons and fear of failure on “Rock Bottom,” the newest offering from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album, This Is a Photograph, out May 13 via Dead Oceans.
“Rock Bottom” is accompanied by a campy video — which the singer describes as an “ice cream-themed nunchucking Western” — directed by frequent Morby collaborator Johnny Eastlund and featuring appearances by comedian Tim Heidecker and artist Ariel Kellogg. It follows Morby and Kellogg as they set out across Los Angeles, nunchucks in tow, to face a sinister talent agent in a delightfully silly no-holds-barred beatdown.

In January 2020, songwriter Kevin Morby witnessed his father collapse from a medical event while visiting his childhood home in Kansas. In a state of shock, the singer spent the evening looking at old family photos and fixated on an image of his father as a young man, looking, as Morby states, “full of confidence.” The experience forced Morby to confront both the idea of mortality and the passage of time — and, after an extended sojourn in Tennessee, these reflections came together in the form of his upcoming album, This Is a Photograph,...

Cal (Owen Teague) arrives on a large Montana spread, his long face and hesitant gait foretelling what his father’s large wooden, picturesque home holds. When he enters, an overbearing beeping sound arises, and a kind-spoken Kenyan nurse named Ace (Gilbert Owuor) greets him. Cal’s father had a stroke. He’s now lying in the living room in a permanent coma attached to life support. The ranch isn’t in much better shape: A lapsed mortgage, no cattle, a 25-year-old stallion on its last legs, and a few chickens account for what remains.
Cal tries to shoulder the burden alone until his estranged sister Erin (a profound Haley Lu Richardson) makes an unannounced appearance. The pair haven’t spoken for seven years. Back then, Erin outed their father in the school paper as a lawyer covering up a toxic mess at a local mine. Their father attacked her, beating her nearly to death,...

The Weather Station performed three tracks off their acclaimed new album Ignorance for CBS This Morning’s latest “Saturday Sessions.”
For the virtual performance, Toronto singer-songwriter Tamara Lindeman — who has recorded under the Weather Station moniker for over a decade — and her well-dressed, masked band delivered “Parking Lot,” “Loss” and “Tried to Tell You” from Ignorance, which was informed largely by Lindeman’s concerns about climate change; the latter track hones in on global warming.
Lindeman previously said in a statement, “I feel like I spend half my life working on trying to stay positive.

Katie Crutchfield has been making music full of beautifully expressed emotional turbulence since her teens, picking up rave reviews and new fans with each release. Before recording Saint Cloud, her fifth album as Waxahatchee, the Alabama-raised musician made some big changes in her life, giving up drinking and moving to Kansas City, where she now lives with her partner, Kevin Morby. She also took a major leap forward in her songwriting, which rings out with a new clarity on Saint Cloud — an album with no skips, just 11 tender country-rock songs...

Fleet Foxes have released a new visual for “I’m Not My Season,” a track from their latest album Shore.
The video was filmed at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn (the same location as the band’s recent Colbert performance with the Resistance Revival Chorus) and was directed by Sean Pecknold, a long-time Fleet Foxes collaborator and brother to frontman Robin Pecknold.
Fleet Foxes released Shore, their fourth album, in September, following their 2017 LP Crack-Up. The album features contributions from Kevin Morby and Grizzly Bear members Christopher Bear and Daniel Rossen.

Fleet Foxes’ rustic neo-folk music and skybound harmonies loomed large over indie-ish rock in the early 2010s, not unlike the way Arcade Fire touched the mid-2000s or Pavement shaped the Nineties. Their last album, 2017’s correctly titled Crack-Up, was a stranger listen than usual for them, proggily ambitious and often opaquely sprawling. With Shore, their newly released fourth album, they’ve wandered back to the campfire, except only now it’s a world on fire: “We’re a long way from the past/I’ll be better off in a year in two,...
