There's never a dull moment at the North Pole, and for the youngsters at the center of The Naughty Nine, it's time to get their gifts back.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at the original Disney Channel holiday movie, and it promises to be a Christmas flick.
The Naughty Nine Nine stars Winslow Fegley (8 Bit Christmas) as Andy, a troublemaking fifth grader who's been "stiffed" by Santa on Christmas morning.
Determined to take back the gift he feels he deserves, Andy recruits a crack team of fellow "naughty listers" to execute an elaborate heist at the North Pole.
The movie also touts Suzanne Todd (Noelle) as an executive producer.
It was penned by Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas (Raven's Home), who also serve as EPs.
The set-up of the movie is fun. A heist in the North Pole?

"Santa! We've got a situation!" Disney has revealed an official trailer for The Naughty Nine, a Christmas comedy streaming in November in time for the holidays. "Get ready for the heist! This year they're coming to Santa's town!" When Andy finds out he's on Santa's "naughty list" waking up on Christmas morning, he pulls together a group of "naughty list" kids to get the presents they think they deserve. They decide to head up to the North Pole to pull off a heist of some kind, putting together a team like Ocean's Eleven. Sounds like they're doing even naughtier things to get off the naughty list? Or is it just some accounting error that put them on there to begin with? The main cast features Winslow Fegley, Camila Rodriguez, Madilyn Kellam, Anthony Joo, Imogen Cohen, Deric McCabe, Ayden Elijah, and Leonidas Castrounis, with Danny Glover as Santa Claus. Yeah this...

"The artists worked with us, not for us. We were family." Hero Ent. is releasing this music history movie in theaters nationwide later this week - Spinning Gold, opening on March 31st. The film is actually a biopic feature, not a documentary or musical, about 1970s record producer Neil Bogart, co-founder of Casablanca Records. Telling a story so unbelievable that it can only be true, comes the motion picture event of the musical journey of Neil Bogart and how his Casablanca Records created the greatest soundtrack of our lives. Netflix’s February rotation has much more to offer than just romance movies, though if you’re looking to extend the Valentine’s Day mood, several options like the Reese Witherspoon rom-com “Your Place Or Mine” from “The Devil Wears Prada” scribe Aline Brosh McKenna will warm your heart. “La La Land” could also satisfy the longing for a love story, but self-love is the most important, and “Eat, Pray, Love” can help you with that.
For those not feeling the love, “Lyle Lyle, Crocodile” promises fun for the whole family with the help of music from “La La Land” composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Shawn Mendes, who voices a CGI crocodile who only expresses himself through song, also contributed an original song to the film.
Here are the best seven new movies to stream on Netflix in February 2023.

For “Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” star Winslow Fegley, the main reason folks should see the adaptation of the beloved children’s book is, put simply, it makes you happy.
“I guess I think that when you watch ‘Lyle,’ and when you see the movie, it’s so happy. When you see Lyle, it’s just makes you so happy,” he said. “And I feel like that’s a great reason for people to see it, like if you’re down or you’re not feeling great or you just want to feel happy for some reason, go watch this movie. It’s a really, really happy movie, and it makes you feel good watching the movie. Why wouldn’t you want that?”

Singer Aditya Narayan has come on-board to lend his voice to the happy-go-lucky singing crocodile for the CGI adaptation of the classic, best-selling children’s book ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ as he goes on an epic adventure on the big screen, in Hindi, across Indian theatres.
Shawn Mendes is the voice for the English version of the titular character.
Aditya Narayan said: “Music is a universally loved language. And while singing is my forte, this has been immensely challenging and rewarding at the same time.”
“This is simply because voicing an animated singing character is wildly different from singing for a film or a music album; here, I needed to really understand the character as a three-dimensional being who feels and emotes, and I was the voice that conveyed every nuance of this character’s life, love and struggles. It was literally voice acting.”

Lyle the crocodile is not meant to be judged by his exterior, just like Bernard Waber’s childrens book from which he originated. If both were judged by their covers, readers and viewers would surely miss out.
“We made the movie because we loved the book,” said director Josh Gordon in an interview with TheWrap. “And the story behind the book, which to us was really about embracing joy and the power of love to save people and unlock potential.”
“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” tells (and sings) the story of a stage-shy crocodile who has the voice of an angel (Shawn Mendes). Lyle gets discovered by Hector P. There are few things in this world that are surprising. Especially when it comes to cinema. A lot of horror films have pretty predictable endings. Marvel movies are going to the filled to the brim with “surprising” cameos. Fast and Furious is going to have some epic car chases.
But occasionally a film comes along to surprise you – and for me, it was Lyle Lyle Crocodile.
Based on a popular children’s book, Lyle Lyle Crocodile revolves around the talented scaly creature who is found by an ageing, desperate showman Hector P. Valenti. After training Lyle to sing and dance, Hector is dismayed to learn that Lyle also has crippling stage freight. When Hector has to go on the road to earn money, he abandons Lyle in his attic apartment. Soon a young family move in, and young son Josh discovers Lyle and strikes up a blossoming, musical friendship.

The creative mandate for the VFX team on “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” was to deliver a premium film with a singing and dancing CG character that both adults and children could believe was real.
Based on the children’s book by Bernard Weber, the film follows Josh (Winslow Fegley), a young boy struggling to fit in, his dad (Scoot McNairy) and stepmother (Constance Wu). Upon moving to the city, the family finds out their new home is inhabited by a singing crocodile named Lyle, voiced by Shawn Mendes.
Josh Gordon, who co-directed the film with Will Speck, says it was important that Lyle didn’t come off mean or menacing. There’s one key question gripping the world this weekend: will the box office be smiling, or will it be Lyling?
Sony’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” had hopes to challenge for the top slot at the box office this weekend, though it seems that the family comedy won’t be able to outpace the second weekend of Paramount’s smash horror film “Smile.” Meanwhile, 20th Century Studios’ “Amsterdam” is bombing in its debut, aiming to finish in third.
“Lyle, Lyle” landed a 3.47 million opening day, screening in 4,350 locations. While that’s not exactly the most impressive opening day on paper, the majority of ticket sales for the musical will come with family audiences attending screenings on Saturday, Sunday and the Monday holiday of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which will keep a good fraction of kids out of school.

Bernard Waber’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” book series is now a major motion picture. The live action/CGI musical comedy stars a whole host of names, including one Canadian singer as the voice of a talented crocodile. The film will feature songs performed by star Shawn Mendes and written by the songwriting team behind “The Greatest Showman” — Benj Pasek and Justin Paul — with an ensemble cast that includes Javier Bardem and Constance Wu.

Although the concept behind Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile – that a singing and dancing crocodile is afflicted with crippling stage fright – falls a bit on the side of unbelievability (just a bit), the heart and soul of this film is so spot on and the performances of all involved prove just as engaging, that this ultimately plays as one of the more entertaining family films in recent memory.
After moving to New York City, young Josh Primm (Scoot McNairy) finds himself struggling to make new friends and adapt to his new school. Then, he discovers a singing crocodile named Lyle (Shawn Mendes) living in the attic of his new home and his entire world begins to change. Of course, no relationship such as this is without its obstacles and the largest one threatening Josh and Lyle in the Primm’s neighbor, Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), who is dead set on getting to...

Josh Gordon and Will Speck’s live-action musical “Lyle Lyle Crocodile” lives up to it name. The story, about a crocodile named Lyle voiced by Shawn Mendes that can dance and sing, features songs penned by the award-winning Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. The dup then brought in a team of songwriters to carve out toe-tapping, infectious earworms.
From the get-go songwriting and composing duo Pasek and Paul knew Lyle would be a singing crocodile which made the project all the more exciting for them. “But when the voice actor became Shawn Mendes, that really informed a lot of the style and what we were going to write for,” explains Pasek.
With Mendes attached, the writers behind “The Greatest Showman” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” could blend musical theater with contemporary pop. “The aim was to create something with his voice,” says Pasek.

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is slowly getting ready to take a bite out of the weekend box office. It earned 575,000 from 3,453 theaters in Thursday previews, while David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam” picked up 550,000 million from 3,005 theaters.
Sony’s live-action/CGI hybrid, co-financed by Tsg, is a family-friendly movie about a singing crocodile, starring Grammy-nominated artist Shawn Mendes as the titular reptile. The studio projects an opening haul of 11 million to 12 million, with some projections belting out upwards of 15 million. With a budget of 50 million, it will need plenty of support from kids and families over the fall to snap up a profit. The cast includes Javier Bardem as Hector P. Valenti, Lyle’s flamboyant owner, Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps and Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy and Winslow Fegley as the Primm family. Plot: Based on the children’s books by Bernard Waber, Lyle is the story of a crocodile who happens to know how to belt out a tune.
Review: Lyle Lyle Crocodile is a children’s book series written by author Bernard Weber. The story revolves around a family who find they have a crocodile living in the Victorian brownstone they just purchased. Starring Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, and Winslow Fegley, Lyle presents a new take on mixing animation with live action. And speaking of animated, you’ll also find Shawn Mendes as the musical voice behind Lyly the Crocodile. He doesn’t ever talk, but he can sure sing. And many of Mr. Mendes’s fanbase will likely be thrilled to hear his vocal talents on display. Co-directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, let’s see what all this croc action has in store.
This adaptation begins with showman Hector P.

So, are you looking for a “family-friendly” flick to perhaps introduce your “pre-k’ tots to the wonders of moviegoing? Well, many parents may be leery of much of the fare, since the “kid aimed” movies are often part of an ongoing franchise or based on a line of toys, video/computer games, or TV shows, perhaps resembling a feature-length commercial to provide “product synergy”. So where are the big-screen adaptations of classic children’s books, one that may inspire the wee ones” to (gasp) read? Well, we’ve got one opening “wide” this weekend based on a beloved tale that’s almost sixty years old. Oh, and it’s filled with music often sung by an adorable animal.

The movie format where a character beloved by kids becomes a CGI creature, who is then plugged into a live-action universe, is one of the most casually technically astonishing of all popcorn genres — and, as often as not, one of the most stunted. It almost doesn’t matter if the hero is Garfield or Stuart Little, Alvin and the Chipmunks or Sonic the Hedgehog: The way this genre has descended from the noisy bravura of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” the actors tend to be reduced to one-note stooges who get stuck in too many green-screen reaction shots, whereas the critter at the center — the animated star — is, almost inevitably, a preening chatterbox who wears out his welcome by pelting the live-action players, and the audience, with too many bad punchlines.

Whatever associations you may have with Lyle the crocodile, you probably didn’t imagine him crooning like Shawn Mendes. Based on Bernard Waber’s beloved children’s book originally published in 1965, the existence of a “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” movie proves nothing is sacred in Hollywood — especially nostalgic childhood storybooks.
If a CGI crocodile with the dulcet tenor of a pop idol seems at odds with Waber’s freehand illustrations, Javier Bardem is perfectly in step as eccentric showman Hector P. Valenti, star of stage and screen. Bardem’s lesser-seen playful side is on full display in “Lyle,” as he hoofs his way across New York City with madcap gusto. The minute he leaves the croc to fend for himself at the house on East 88th Street, his absence is sorely felt by all — not just lonely Lyle. Along with a few bouncy numbers from “The Greatest Showman” duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul,...

It was very New York of children’s author-illustrator Bernard Waber to turn an urban myth about misplaced reptiles into a beloved series of bedtime books about a city family adopting a friendly crocodile. And it’s very Hollywood to want to turn that beloved series of bedtime books into the unwieldy, CGI-splotched musical pablum that is “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.”
Even with a mustachioed Javier Bardem doing his bonkers best to evoke a Fellini-esque sideshow vibe as flamboyant entertainer Hector P. Valenti, the titular amphibian’s first owner, if you didn’t know that the frenetic and tinny “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” had modestly charming literary origins, you’d swear the title of this corporatized kiddie-franchise fodder was a cheeky alternative acronym for LLC.
But hey, there has to be something at the other end of the quality spectrum from the joyful do-good magic of “Paddington,” and this overwrought, clunky creature-teacher-feature...

When you think of life-sized animated crocodiles (and who doesn’t, at least once in a while?), you don’t imagine that their singing voice is like Shawn Mendes’. No slight toward the 24-year-old pop star intended, but shouldn’t a crocodile sound a bit weightier? When the title character of the new live-action/CGI musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile opens his very large mouth to sing in a high-pitched tenor voice, he sounds less like a giant-toothed predatory reptile than, I don’t know…a salamander, maybe.
Based on Bernard Waber’s best-selling book series, the film falls easily into the family movie sub-genre in which children, and often their parents and other adults, learn life lessons from a very large animal. When I was a kid, I was a sucker for Clifford the Big Red Dog (the subject of his own movie,...

After a generally miserable September at the box office, October bursts in with the promise of at least two franchise films, although things will kick off mildly with two very different movies — one based on a children’s book and the other an original.
Sony’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is the first new PG-rated family movie in over two months. It’s hard to imagine that families who have been desperate to get the kids out of the house won’t take advantage of a new movie that is appropriate for them. Based on the 1965 children’s book by Bernard Waber, the live action hybrid movie is directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (“Blades of Glory”) and stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Brett Gelman and Scoot McNairy. Almost 60 years after famous children’s author Bernard Waber published “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” the story is finally getting a live-action adaptation.
The 1965 picture book, a sequel to “The House on East 88th Street,” follows a saltwater crocodile navigating the streets of New York City. At the worldwide red carpet premiere on Sunday, the cast and crew discussed the process of threshing out a grander narrative based on the ten books in the “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” series.
“It’s like a 17-page book, so the room for growth and expansion is tenfold,” producer Kevin Vafi told Variety at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York. “It’s finding those homage points that you really want to do, like the note in the attic or meeting Lyle in the bathtub with Mrs. Primm — all these little callbacks to the book.”

The complicated world of Hollywood is always a-changing, but if there's anything in this world that we can count on, it's talking animals befriending lonely children. In the vein of "Clifford The Big Red Dog," "Paddington" and maybe even "Detective Pikachu," comes "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile." Based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber, the film tells the story of a friendly crocodile who loves baths, singing, and his local community. Oh, and Lyle is voiced by pop-singing sensation Shawn Mendes.
Obviously, you have some questions: will there be an in-universe explanation for why Lyle the crocodile can sing? How many of Shawn Mendes' actual songs will be in the movie? Will it ever get less weird to hear the pop star's voice come out of a CGI crocodile? I can answer absolutely none of these questions but here's what we do know — "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" involves lots of hijinks...
