Apoorva, born and raised in Madras, refined her cinematic craft at the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she wrote and directed her graduation film 'Kanya'. The film premiered at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival and was a semi-finalist at the 2021 Student Academy Awards, placing it among the top 7% of entrants worldwide.
'Kanya' was showcased at several Academy-recognised film festivals, including Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival (USA), Raindance Film Festival (UK), Interfilm - International Short Film Festival (Germany), Short Shorts Film Festival Asia (Japan), Reel Sisters of the Diaspora (USA), Bengaluru International Short Film Festival (India), Bogo Shorts (Colombia),In the Palace short Film Festival (Bulgaria), and many others, leading to streaming deals with HBO Max Europe and Nowness Asia.
After graduating, Apoorva headed the CET Academic Programme at FAMU, overhauling its curriculum and mentoring the development and execution of nearly 40 short films on 16mm and 35mm film formats. She later co-founded Off Beat Films to nurture emerging filmmakers from Asia and beyond as a Creative Producer.
Apoorva is deeply committed to the preservation and study of Indian cinema history. She graduated from the first cohort of Film preservation and restoration school of India organised in association with Cineteca Di Bologna, Martin Scorsese's film foundation, The International Federation of Film Archives, l'immagine Ritrovata & Film Heritage Foundation.
Apoorva is securing financing for her debut film, "Wedding Food," a horror comedy, and is in the final stages of development with her sophomore film, "Faultline,". Her main interest in storytelling lies in crafting genre-bending narratives.
