Naren Balakumar

Naren Balakumar was born in Kumbakonam, India. Kumbakonam town is one of the temple city from Tamil Nadu from in Tanjavur District, which is known for stunning arts & painting. He is the younger of two children and survived with his parents at Chennai. He is very much interested on Music from his childhood, also instigated by various types of music and songs. He learnt Keyboard and Guitar in his early age which helps him to understand the modus operandi/formulae of the Key Music Performers and the systems.

He was Post graduated (Business Administration) from GNIM a business school in Chennai, before completing his commerce Graduation from AM Jain College. He has completed his schooling from Sri Matha matriculation school and Vallalar Higher Secondary School, Chennai.

Naren is basically a keyboard player and a Part time Guitarist, he also learns Hindustani classical Music from Mrs. Tanusree Saha and learned western classical music from various masters. His first assignment started at the age of 19 as he used to make his own tunes for the college cultural every year, through which his decision as a music composer became firm. He also composes jingle for advertisements, corporate ad films etc. .,

His determination and efforts on music offers an opportunity for him to compose background scores for motion picture. Early to this he has composed various style of music for many Short Films, Documentaries, Ad Films and Albums etc.

Naren Balakumar, a music composer of modern times he developed his musical interest and knowledge in his early days through his parents, as both are with Carnatic background and also from a musical family. His grandfather Kottur A.S.Krishnamoorthy, was a Harmonium player who used to perform the scores during street plays and dramas and his grandmother Thiruvaiyaru A.S.K.Yogambal, a trained classical singer.This would have probably prevail on an interest in him for choosing music as his career.

He is not only composed music for advertisement jingles, but also a talented background music composer, Success of a movie relies on good music too, and Naren has a better understanding of this and have done original scores for around 40 short movies and documentary movies exceptionally well.

One of his compositions which made everyone turn back at him and made everyone feel a different kind of music was a song which he had composed for the Onam Festival which was released in the Kerala television channels called "Ente Priya Keralam - Onam Fest 2010". Naren also composed jingles for News7 and Sun Network.

He has done his debut as music composer in a tamil feature film " Thappu Thanda" and recognized for the best melody composer and background score composer. His second movie as the music composer was "Utharavu Maharaja" and he has done an amazing background score and the same got recognized by many of the critics.

He signed a Malay feature film in the year 2018 called "Makrifat Cinta" directed by Mr Kamal G. Naren composed 2 songs and complete background music for this film. Parallely, his third film in tamil " Meendum" directed by the citizen movie fame 'Sharavanan Subbiah' got released in the year 2021 in this film he had an opportunity to work with the legendary lyric writer Vairamuthu.Naren got appreciations for the wonderful melodies and very supportive background score for the movie meendum.

Naren is currently working on Tamil feature film "Echo" and Malayalam feature film "Ambergris" which are due any time after few months' time.
