Back in the Stalin era in the old Soviet Union, Babaevskiy's writings
were acclaimed for their fidelity to "socialist realism." Babaevskiy's
most famous (infamous) novel, "Cavalier of the Golden Star," was
adapted for the screen by director Rayzman (Raizman) and the film
version, predictably, was a big prize winner under Stalin.
