No one picks the painter's brush or tells the painter how to stroke the brush on the canvas. The painter chooses the subject matter, the canvas, the brush, the colors and whatever else, and paints. With picture and sound, the creative process is satisfying if one could choose their material, write it, perform in it, shoot it and edit it.
