A lot of the time when Crooks is making a movie he has little to no budget. In fact a lot of the time he will go to the store and purchase a prop, use it and return it. For "Thieves Like Us" he bought a 125 dollar safe for one scene, then returned it the next day. He then discovered he needed a few more shots with the safe, so he bought it again and then returned it the very same day.
