Keilani Rose was born and raised in Lheidli (The Place Where the Two Rivers Flow Together - also colonially known as Prince George, BC). Along their matrilineal roots, they belong to the Lheidli T'enneh nation and hold intersectional Indigeneity with the Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawai'ian) diaspora. Rose also carries British settler, Chinese immigrant, and Black ancestry. Keilani is the great-granddaughter of Captain Owen Forrester Browne and a direct descendant of beloved Granny Seymour, The Matriarch of the North. It is the legacy of her ancestors, the courage of Polynesian way-finders and the heart of Dakelh healers that lead her on her path. She is the oldest of three siblings raised by a single mother.
Growing up, dance was her first love. She was taught traditional cultural dances from her family lineages and also trained classically. Upon graduating high school, Rose was honored with the Governor General's Award for outstanding academic excellence, garnering a full-ride scholarship to UNBC, but it wasn't long until numerous dance roles for Disney and ABC catapulted Keilani into the entertainment world. Rose made her film debut starring in and choreographing Within the Silence (written & directed by Jade Tailor), which garnered the Festival de Cannes (2021) awards for Best Fantasy and Best Choreography. She is also known for her role as Miigwan on the hit comedy Shoresy (2022).
Keilani is the founder and executive director of Two Rivers & a Rose Filmworks, her production company striving for sovereign stories and Indigenous justice. The company's creative debut featured an Ohana collaboration with Rose's younger sibling, singer & songwriter KeAloha, for her music videos, Mama's Hands and Mahina.
On July 4, 2022, she survived a gunshot through the chest in the streets of Hollywood.
When she's not behind the camera, she dedicates her efforts towards a climate justice/Indigenous justice campaign, Lheidli Too (Two Rivers Water), working in partnership with Autumn Peltier's team, advocating for the protection and reclamation of Sacred Waters.
