Frozen II

I wasn't a big fan of the first film, and was a tad disappointed to see it hadn't had anything to do with Hans Christian Andersons' original fairytale. However, the Disney story had some fresh perspectives and messages, and was pretty well balanced overall.

Fast forward to Frozen II. Oof, this is very poorly written. Even though the state of the art top notch animation work tries to convince me otherwise, this film brings back memories to those poorly written direct-to-tv (DTV) films (the horror!) that Disney churned out by the dozens in the 90s and early 00s. The Return of Jafar, The Hunchback II, Pocahontas .. Still gives me the shivers. This was not much better. Though they hired some a class artists, song writers, animators and other technicians, they just can't seem to bring it to live. The story is all over the place and boring, no notable character development arcs, and it seems there is nothing much at stake.

Anyways, the (smallest) kids will love it and as Disney's number 1 cash cow is the merchandise, I am sure the head honchos of the Mickey club will be pleased to see the billions of revenue stream flowing in their direction again. Even my daughter of eleven years old, who was a huge fan of the first film, thought the film was hilarious, and not in a good way.
