Costume Quest

I have yet to play the video games that the show's based on, so I don't know how accurate it is. However, from watching the whole series at 19 years old, I found it quite enjoyable. It's got a unique yet familiar art style, a pretty creative yet reliable premise, an epically catchy opening theme, and the right amount of spookiness for kids and grownups alike.

The only weakness I recognize is that the different story arcs in each episode are fairly predictable. Borderline cliché plots of Lucy wanting to prove to her mom that she's a big girl, Reynold trying to be brave to help his friends, etc. I can forgive that because the show is technically targeted towards children between seven and twelve years old, but to older viewers like parents or teenage siblings, it can be seen as something boring you got to trudge through in order to witness the monster battles and the four best friends' inevitable victory. That's the only weak spot I could perceive, though. Other than that, Costume Quest is solid family programming and given its spooky weird atmosphere, it could be a nice thing for little ones to watch leading up to Halloween.
