Cultural Experience

Sacred Mask is a cultural experience in the world of wrestling or as it's known in the Mexican and Tejano community "las luchas". It will bring memories of hero verses villan battling with masks and without, knowing one must fall to claim victory. The independent film has impressive wrestling movies executed by Paige Steakly who committed to weeks of wrestling training to prepare for the role. Max Castellanos, a professional wrestler, is the lead character. Castellanos appearing more and more natural as the movie played out. The screenplay is written by David Mendez, who also authored WELCOME TO TEJAS Short Stories de Memoria, mentioned wrestling in his novel. Growing up watching Las luchas appeared to be an influential factor in his writing. Sacred Mask did lose me for a bit and can drag in some places. I was puzzled why the inspection gave up an important piece of evidence, "the box" but I got past it and found that family pride runs deep into future generations. With subtle humor and charming characters, this film has heart and soul.
