Let's cut to the chase--"Air Devils" is an incredibly stupid film with little to make you want to see it. And, because I am letting you know this now, there is little reason for you to bother with it. Heck, it's bad but not bad enough to be enjoyable as a bad film. No, it's just lousy.
The film is set on some Pacific island and concerns the local police, called 'constabularies'. These men work to enforce order as well as imperialism--bombing 'baddies' and arresting law-breakers. Two of these guys are played by Larry Blake and Dick Purcell. I won't even bother to tell you the characters' names, as they really have little in the way of real personalities. Instead, they are caricatures of police men who spend almost all their time fighting--much like Popeye and Bluto! In fact, at one point late in the film, the police are under attack and things are perilous...and the pair start beating the crap out of each other!! And, inexplicably, at the end the two manage to wreck an airplane and do little--yet are named as heroes!! All in all, it doesn't get much dumber than that! The film's only interest lies in the way it is a solid endorsement of imperialism of the day--with the constabularies killing off dissent. In the film the constabularies are the good guys and the enemy evil--but there is no depth or discussion of this--just a simplistic message that these islanders cannot rule themselves so it's up to this police force to do it.
By the way, if you do watch the film (and I beg you not to), listen up for some recycled music from the Buck Rogers (or is it Flash Gordon?) series.
