A man called Will Flaherty (Craig Hill) is detained , tried and convicted for a robbery that was really committed by someone else . Meantime , a group of thieves led by Tilly (Eduardo Fajardo) and Doc (Roberto Camardiel) assault a bank , but the heist goes wrong , then the gang (Piero Lulli , Nazzareno Zamperla , Nello Pazzafini , Fajardo) wait for a stageacoach allegedly loaded of gold . As the cutthroats enter at the town saloon and take as hostages all the people , including a singer (the captivating Giulia Rubini) and the dance girls . While , Flatherty gets out of jail , he goes in search of the actual stealers who executed the robbery , arriving in the town where he finds his old flame (Rubini) .
The film packs thrills , saloon brawls , shootouts , high body-count , chases, violence and haunting musical background. However , the film results to be slow-moving , mainly developing itself into the saloon and rooms , exception for a thrilling pursuit between a carriage and a rider , as well as the spectacular ending showdown with the ordinary crossfire between good guys and bad guys . There is a very odd implementation of shots in the camera work during some particular scenes as the film approaches its climax , such as in the final gunfights . The movie gets the usual Western issues , as avengers antiheroes , violent facing off , exaggerated baddies and spectacular shoot'em up , among them . It stars this tarnished actor , Craig Hill who played a lot of Spaghetti , his first Pasta Western was ¨Hands of a Gunfighter" or ¨Ocaso de un Pistolero¨ , he went on playing : "Seven Pistols for a Massacre" , "Rick and John¨ , ¨Conquerors of the West¨ , ¨Bounty hunter¨ , "I Want Him Dead" , "Fifteen Scaffolds for the Killer" , "Three Crosses of Death" , ¨Bury Them Deep¨ , and "I want him dead¨ . Furthermore, here appears usual Italian/Spanish Western support actors , a largely secondary cast filled with familiar faces , all of them ordinary in Chorizo/Macaroni western . As Craig Hill is supported by a secondary cast who is frankly decent , thanks to the appearance of important secondaries from Spaghetti/Tortilla or Paella Western , these are the following ones : The always great Eduardo Fajardo , the regular baddie Piero Lulli , Roberto Camardiel , Nazzareno Zamperla , Jacques Herlin , Eleonora Vargas , Spartaco Conversi , Nello Pazzafini , among others .
The musician Francesco De Massi composes a nice soundtrack and well conducted , this turns out to be one of the most memorable parts of the movie; as it's full of enjoyable sounds and attractive songs. It contributes tremendously to the atmosphere of the film, including an emotive leitmotif, the score is perhaps the best part of this film . Striking cinematography by Julio Ortas including a correct remastering . Outdoor sequences with barren and rocky exteriors filmed in Spanish places located on outskirts Madrid , Colmenar Viejo , Hoyo De Manzanares . In Hoyo de Manzanares was built a Western village by the producer Eduardo Manzanos Brochero , here screenwriter too , called 'Golden City' carried out by the production designers José Luis Galicia and Jaime Pérez Cubero and resulted to be the locations in which were shot lots of Western produced and directed by Spanish and Italian and occasionally American people , including ¨Fistful of dollars¨and ¨For a fistful of dollars more¨.
The motion picture was regularly directed by Mario Caiano . Mario Caiano's direction is so-so crafted, here he's less cynical and humorous and more inclined toward violence and too much dialogue . At his beginning , Caiano worked as a director assistant for known Italian filmmakers as Sergio Grieco, Fernando Cerchio , Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia , Vittorio Sala , Riccardo Freda, Edgar G. Ulmer and Camillo Mastrocinque . In 1962 Caiano made his film debut as a director with Ulises versus Hercules (1962). From then on he made films in virtually every genre. He directed the very first Italian western, ¨The sign of the Coyote¨ (1963), he made an acceptable western , genre in which he would not only excel but one where he would spent much of the rest of his career , as he directed several Spaghetti : ¨Brandy¨, ¨Avenger of California¨ , ¨Ringo, face of revenge¨, ¨My name is Shanghai Joe¨, ¨Bullets don't argue¨, ¨Lone and angry man¨, ¨A train to Durango¨. Caiano is a craftsman who has directed all kind of genres as Peplum as ¨Ulisse vs Ercole¨, ¨I due Gladiatori¨, ¨Maciste Gadiatori di Sparta¨ and Terror : the gothic horror flick¨Nightmare castle¨(1965), which starred Barbara Steele, ¨Eye in the labyrinth¨ with Adolfo Celi , Psychological thriller and Poliziesco as the detective thriller ¨A tutte le auto della polizia...¨ (1975) and even Pornonazi as ¨Nazi love camp 27¨. Although Caiano couldn't be deemed an "A"-list director, his movies had a professionalism and a verve that many of those made by his fellow B directors lacked . Muddle and uneven Western but will appeal to Spaghetti aficionados . Rating : 5, riotous Western in which there's too much violence , and excitement enough
